Nottingham University Hospitals is in one of the UK’s largest and busiest acute teaching hospital Trusts and has a national and international reputation for many of its specialist services and expertise. One of these services is Hepatology. Due to the impact that the current pharmacy service to the speciality has had they wish to invest further with the development of this Advanced Pharmacy Practitioner post.

The successful post holder will become an integral part of the Hepatology MDT in helping with the management of the medications used within the condition. The post holder will also work together with colleagues across the East Midlands region and further in developing pharmacy services to Hepatology patients.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for working directly with out clinicians, nurse specialists and finance teams to deliver safe and effective treatment to patients within Hepatology at NUH.

This role provides an excellent opportunity for experienced, motivated clinical pharmacists to take on responsibility for an exciting, high profile clinical speciality which is very high on the national agenda.

As a senior member of the pharmacist team there will be the opportunity to help support and mentor the junior members of the team. You will be supported by the divisional lead pharmacist for surgery as well as being able to call upon the support of the large pharmacy department at NUH.

The post will have involvement with Hepatology transplant clinics, homecare provision of medications and the HCT MDT.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post will be predominately based at the Queens Medical Centre, but there will be an expectation to travel to the Nottingham City Hospital campus and potentially to other trusts in the region. You will be required to participate in a rostered flexible shift working system including evening, weekend and bank holiday arrangements over a 7 day period and support the on-call pharmacists through the senior pharmacist back-up rota.

Essential criteria
- Qualified as a pharmacist independent prescriber

Experience

Essential criteria
- Extensive experience of delivering clinical pharmacy service to patients within Hepatology
- Able to demonstrate in-depth pharmaceutical skills and knowledge within the speciality. This will include provision of highly specialist review and advice relating to the safe use of medicines.
- Experience of leading projects and managing change, with evidence of completed outcomes
