**JOB OVERVIEW**

A fantastic opportunity to work in a varied role with a marine conservation charity in Pembrokeshire. Sea Trust Wales is a registered charity committed to studying, raising awareness of, and helping to protect local marine life and the marine environment. We run several projects, including a citizen science Harbour porpoise Photo-ID project, an End-of-Life fishing gear recycling project (Recycle Môr), and an educational project incorporating a Virtual Reality (VR) experience (Discover Môr). At Ocean Lab we run a catch & release Aquarium, a Gift Shop, and a Café, which serve as a base for our public outreach and a popular tourist location. We are recruiting a Marine Conservation Assistant to work across our range of projects and promote public outreach.

You will work closely with our Projects Manager and Project Officer on our current marine conservation projects, co-ordinating our volunteers, and working to promote the projects in schools, the local community, and to a wider online audience. This role will involve travelling to marine survey sites, local schools, and other community venues; therefore, you will need your own transport. The role will include some weekend work.

**RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY TASKS**

**The role of the Marine Conservation Assistant will be**:

- Volunteer coordination - organising citizen science marine wildlife surveys; this will include attending regular surveys, and checking weather forecasts/volunteer availability etc.
- Design and deliver educational activities to promote Pembrokeshire’s marine wildlife, including running rockpooling sessions/aquarium tours with visiting school groups.
- Work with Project Manager and placement students to organise and deliver our Marine Biology Club, an educational club for young people (10-16 years old).
- Create regular social media and marketing content.
- Assist with daily running of Visitor Centre - aquarium tours, gift shop, booking system.

**SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE**

**It is essential that you have**:

- Experience of marine conservation, or other community environmental initiatives.
- Knowledge and enthusiasm of local marine wildlife and habitats.
- Experience of the voluntary sector and working with volunteers.
- Ability and confidence to deliver educational sessions/presentations.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to engage and inspire participation in a variety of audiences.
- Ability to work independently and on own initiative, as well as ability to work under direction & collaboratively.
- Good interpersonal, team working and facilitation skills - to develop effective working relationships with volunteers, schools, and other community organisations.
- DBS certification or willingness to undertake one.
- Full car driving licence and the use of a suitable vehicle for work.

**It is desirable that you have**:

- Knowledge of Welsh language.
- Experience using design software to create educational/promotional resources e.g., Canva.
- Knowledge of marine wildlife survey methods.
- Experience of designing and delivering environmental education activities for a range of settings, including in school and outdoor learning.

**Job Type**: Part-time

**Salary**: £15,000.00 per year
