This job description may be amended at any time, following consultation between the Headteacher and member of staff and will be reviewed annually. Priorities for the year will be negotiated and highlighted.
- **This role will also develop as the Animal Care Unit becomes established. Initially the focus will be on setting up the unit and curriculum and weekend/holiday work will be mínimal until animals are on site.**_
**Core purpose**
- To be responsible for designing and implementing an Animal Care programme in KS3 and KS4 and Post 16
- To be responsible for the main delivery of Animal Care.
- To organise and direct (as appropriate) the teaching of Animal Care across the curriculum.
- To manage and be responsible for the Animal Care facilities and resources.
- To manage and be responsible for the welfare of the animals including; cleaning, grooming, feeding and monitoring their health.
- To evaluate the standards of pupils’ achievements and set targets for improvement.
- To identify appropriate accreditation opportunities in Animal Care.
- To support the provision of a high-quality educational experience for all students, including provision for health, safety and welfare in line with current pay and conditions document and National Standards for Teaching Assistants
**Main Duties**
**Teaching, Learning & Assessment**
1. To teach Animal Care throughout the school as part of the vocational education department, ensuring curriculum coverage, continuity and progression for all students, including those of high ability and those with special educational needs other than emotional and behavioural difficulties, or linguistic needs.
2. Ensure effective teaching of whole classes, and of groups and individuals within the whole class setting, so that teaching objectives are met, and best use is made of teaching time.
3. Establish and maintain a purposeful working atmosphere and set high expectations for students’ behaviour.
5. With the support of the Senior Leadership Team establish and implement clear policies and practices for assessing, recording and reporting on student’s achievements, using this information to recognise achievement and to assist students in setting targets for further improvement.
10.To identify appropriate accreditation opportunities and prepare and enter students for examinations.
**Management and responsibility of animal welfare and the Animal Care facilities**
1. To take daily responsibility for the health and welfare of the animals in your care, this includes; feeding, grooming, cleaning and health checks.
2. Maintain accurate and up to date records regarding the health and welfare of animals.
3. Undertake, implement and review appropriate risk assessments to maintain the health and welfare of animals and the safety of staff and students.
4. Undertake animal care duties at weekends and during school holidays (this role is currently shared between 2 people).
5. To liaise with Vets and other animal health care providers to ensure regular checks and immunisations are carried out.
6. To ensure the animal care facilities stay clean and inform relevant staff of repairs needed.
**Efficient and effective deployment of resources**
1. Ensure the effective and efficient management and organisation of learning resources including information and communications technology.
2. Maintain existing resources and explore opportunities to develop or incorporate new resources from a wide range of sources inside and outside school.
4. Ensure that there is a safe working and learning environment in which risks are properly assessed.
**To undertake pastoral and behavioural management responsibilities**
1. By ensuring that support for the behaviour management of students is consistent with the school’s policies and programmes.
2. By contributing to activities which will provide opportunities for students’ social and cultural development.
3. By setting a good example to the students, through their presentation and their personal and professional conduct.
**To contribute to the corporate responsibilities of the senior leadership team**
1. In planning school policies, curriculum provision and support, and the monitoring and evaluation of learning, achievement and students’ progress.
