Detention Services (DS) is part of Immigration Enforcement (IE) and supports compliance across the immigration system through the detention and removal of individuals who no longer have the right to remain in the UK, and for whom other enforcement approaches have been unsuccessful.

DS is responsible for running the immigration removal estate, which principally comprises seven immigration removal centres (IRCs). We have a responsibility to ensure that people in detention are held securely, safely and are treated with dignity and respect.

Our operational teams carry out their responsibilities with the welfare of those in our care at the forefront of their minds. Our specialist teams, focusing on safer detention, health and security, take an estate-wide view; building relationships with delivery partners, conducting thematic reviews and undertaking monitoring activities. We work closely with our commercial partners to effectively communicate what matters and ensure a shared understanding of services and risk.

Immigration detention is highly scrutinised in the media, Parliament and by independent bodies and inspectorates. DS is responsible for ensuring recommendations are addressed and continuous improvements are made within the immigration removal estate.

These are visible roles that sit at the centre of the DS Operational team and will include a diverse set of responsibilities that encompasses many important elements of what the team are expected to deliver.

As well as directly supporting the Chief of Staff, and the Head of Detention Operations on occasion, these roles will include a variety of responsibilities that will support the work of our team and the unit as a whole, in what is a very dynamic and high-profile UK-wide operational environment.

These roles will include administrative tasks required to support the Head of Detention Operations; this includes managing aspects of the Deputy Director’s diary, inbox and booking travel arrangements. These roles will also have a focus on running several overarching areas of work that require the post holder to work productively and proactively alongside colleagues across DS and the wider unit.

This work will be crucial in enabling DS Operations to continue to run its BAU functions, whilst providing an enhanced ability to respond quickly to changing events and new, often time-sensitive taskings.

The post holders will need to be self-starters who can demonstrate an ability to keep up with a fast pace and constant changes, and who can consistently produce work of good quality whilst maintaining an eye for detail and an awareness and consideration for how the wider business works.

There are several competing pressures on the immigration removal estate which makes this role even more ambitious at this time, including delivering and facilitating key elements of the Prime Ministers’ ten-point immigration plan.

These roles may involve some early mornings and late evenings on occasion, although every effort will be made to accommodate flexibility where necessary. Occasional travel to our IRCs and office locations across the UK will also be required.

**Person specification**:
**Key functions**
- Administrative support for the Head of Detention Operations and their chief of staff (inbox and diary management, including ownership of various distribution lists, organograms, booking travel arrangements etc).
- Management of the DS and International Returns Service Command (IRS) Escorting Ops duty rota.
- Lead and process several strands of reporting for specific cohorts within detention (relating to the PM’s ten-point plan for immigration). This will include the completion and circulation of a weekly report for casework leads and Detention Engagement Teams for long stayers in detention, wit
