**Job Title: General Advisor - BN(O) Support**

**Location: Wirral Change, Wirral**

**Reports to**: **Wirral Asylum and Resettlement Team**

**Salary: £22,000 Pro rata**

**Contract Type: 2.5 FTE Part-time / 6-month probation**

**Purpose of the Role**

This position for the Wirral Asylum and Resettlement at Wirral Change is essential in delivering comprehensive and holistic support to Wirral's Ethnic Minority Communities. This role is dedicated to connecting BN(O) visa holders with professional services, facilitate socialisation within the community and with locals, prepare them for employment, enroll individuals into accredited training programs, establish connections with local employers, promote positive lifestyle changes, and serve as advocates for those feeling lost in an unfamiliar society. By fostering a supportive environment, the advisor will empower clients to achieve their full potential and deliver support of Economic well-being, Beneficiary training, education, accreditation, and employment and Community cohesion.

**MAIN DUTIES**

**General Advisor - BN(O) Support**
- Develop relationships with local organisations and stakeholders to enhance support networks for clients and refer individuals to specialist or mainstream services for additional support.
- Provide one-to-one support and guidance to clients on health and wellbeing, benefits, education and training, employment, and other relevant areas.
- Develop and implement personalised action plans to help clients achieve their goals and improve their life skills.
- Offer practical support in accessing services, filling out forms, understanding rights and entitlements, and managing money.
- Assist clients in accessing healthcare services and provide information on maintaining good physical and mental health.
- Promote services by organising and participating in community events and activities and engaging with target and hard-to-reach communities.
- Refer complex cases around benefit issues to the Welfare Advocate and Benefits Advisor for appeals and representation.
- Carry out outreach or promotional work as required to raise awareness and engage with the community.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client interactions and progress and prepare regular reports for the Wirral Asylum and Resettlement Team Leader.
- Monitor caseload progress, keep an up-to-date database, and handle other project administration tasks.
- Undertake further training and development as required to stay updated with best practices and improve service delivery.
- Provide information to BN(O) visa holders, ensuring they access information and services related to health, housing, legal matters, education, employment, and volunteering, working in partnership with specialist services for comprehensive care.

**ESSENTIAL QUALITIES**
- Excellent communication skills across various mediums, with strong verbal and written proficiency in both English and Cantonese.
- Information, Advice, and Guidance (IAG) qualification at Level 2 or 3.
- GCSE in English and Mathematics or equivalent.
- NVQ in advice and guidance, with a willingness to undertake further training.
- Ability to work towards meeting set monthly targets and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Naturally empathetic, an attentive listener, and non-judgmental when addressing client issues.
- Comfortable in client meetings, with the ability to instil confidence and trust where needed.
- High level of cultural competence and sensitivity, essential for working with diverse client groups.
- Strong commitment to promoting equality and diversity in all aspects of work.
- Good knowledge of local services, third sector provisions, and similar organisations across the Wirral.
- Understanding of the benefits system, health and wellbeing resources, education and training coordination, and employment resources.
- Ability to diversify approaches on a client-by-client basis to overcome potential issues, including language and disability barriers, and explore new opportunities.
- Confident in using Microsoft Windows 10.
- Ability to plan and manage hectic workloads effectively, with accurate data recording.
- Ability to multitask and use own initiative.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Strong teamwork ethic, with a willingness to adopt and share techniques, practices, and knowledge within the team.
- Assist in compiling project reports with the team leader.

**DESIRABLE QUALITIES**
- Experience in a similar role, with a good understanding of or experience working with diverse communities, including Wirral’s diverse communities.
- Ability to effectively utilise relevant contacts, including individuals and organisations across the borough.
- Strong focus on people, their needs, and barriers, with a determination to provide the best support within your ability.
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision, while ensuring compliance with the programme’s requirements.
