To support each child resident in Sprucewood as part of a multidisciplinary team by creating a safe, nurturing and therapeutically responsive environment which meets their individual needs. To contribute to the development and fruition of therapeutic plans and support and supervise the implementation of agreed intervention strategies in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and relevant external professionals.

It will be a requirement of this post to be registered with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC).

Key responsibilities:

- To embrace and uphold Sprucewood’s vision, mission, ethos and values throughout employment with the organisation and actively act as role model for all staff.
- To contribute to the multi-disciplinary assessment of the children’s needs, informed by your specific discipline, and the development of appropriate therapeutic plans with the team to meet such needs, to share relevant information, observations and facilitate decision making in collaboration with colleagues and the Home Manager.
- To work with a consistent approach with the team and to ensure team adherence to the agreed therapeutic plan for each child.
- To develop and maintain appropriate professional relationships with children, colleagues and external parties; to establish and encourage staff to maintain relationships with the local community and thereby facilitate the involvement of the children in local community activities.
- To understand the origins, nature and function of the children’s trauma based behaviour and to employ key agreed interventions, in line with their therapeutic plan, to support children when they present with high risk behaviours such as: sexualised behaviour/language, prolonged periods of distress and anger; rages, hitting, spitting, kicking, nipping, biting, slapping, punching, enuresis and encopresis, smearing, property damage, theft, making false allegations, absconding, self-injurious behaviour, suicide ideation, cruelty to animals.
- To understand the potential impact that trauma-based behaviour presented by the children can have on self and to commit to, embrace and actively participate in supervision and team reflective practice in an effort to bolster resilience and professional practice in line with Sprucewood’s supervision policy.
- To provide formal supervision, informal supervision, coaching and support to the residential team to promote and bolster resilience; to role model containment and confidence and a reflective practice approach when working with intense trauma based behaviour.
- To support the Home Manager in promoting team growth and development, to promote a sense of belonging, cohesion and transparency.
- To support the recruitment system with the Home Manager and Directors in line with HR policy and procedures.
- To co-ordinate and contribute to the induction programme for new staff, ensuring inductions are completed and reviewed within agreed timescales and in accordance with HR policy and procedure.
- To support the planning, co-ordination, and monitoring of staff annual training in line with Learning and Development plans and professional requirements.
- Lead and coordinate the day to day running of Spruce Cottage including diary management,

facilitating handover meetings and any other meetings as required.
- To participate in the shared ‘out of hours’ duty system to provide responsive support, guidance, and direction to the residential team after office hours.
- To manage the household budget for Spruce Cottage in accordance with Sprucewood’s Finance policy, procedures and processes and to ensure accountability by staff team.
- To support and contribute to the development and management of the duty rota system to ensure that Spruce Cottage is appropriately staffed to support to the children.
- To assess and manage risk in collaboration with the Home Manager, including the completion and review of risk assessment and management plans, Individual Crisis Management Plans following consultation with the residential team; to support the Home Manager in completing Group Impact Risk Assessments in relation to the referral process and making decisions in relation to same.
- To contribute to and facilitate team meetings, children’s meetings, core group meetings, care planning meetings, and when appropriate, interagency, and Statutory meetings (e.g. Looked After Child Review meetings) and any other meetings as required.
- To act as a positive role model in being sensitive to the individual needs of the children, taking account of race, culture, language, and religion.
- To promote the care of furnishings and household equipment and undertake household and domestic duties when appropriate to ensure Spruce Cottage is maintained in a good state of repair and provides a homely and nurturing environment for the children resident there.
