**About the role**:
As our Head of Talent, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and driving the talent strategy for Matalan. Reporting directly to the Chief People Officer, you will be responsible for leading Talent Attraction, Talent Development, Early Careers, Apprenticeships, and Employer Brand initiatives. You will ensure that what your team delivers enables the business strategy and supports colleagues to develop their careers, whilst also staying at the forefront of equity, diversity and inclusion trends within the talent space.

What You Will Do

Lead the Talent Attraction team to ensure recruitment practices lead to us attracting the best talent in a way that both promotes our employer brand and drives equity, diversity and inclusion.

Ensure a clear strategy is in place so our Employer Brand stands out against competitors and showcases our Employer Value Proposition to external Talent.

Lead the Talent Development team to have a compelling development offer which supports colleague performance at every stage of their career journey, from onboarding right through to Senior Leadership in a variety of formats (both digital, physical and face to face).

Facilitate the delivery of Leadership sessions which support with shaping the culture of the organisation.

Stand out in the Early Careers space, shaping a compelling suite of routes into Matalan which demonstrate a point of difference and competitive advantage over other retailers as well as contributing to our broader business ESG agenda.

Facilitate strong external partnerships with providers who will develop and enhance what we have on offer to colleagues.

Maximise the Apprenticeship Levy ensuring it is utilised across the business to benefit colleagues and improve capability.

Bring the different parts of the Talent Team together, working as one team who avoid duplication and create the best experience for our colleagues.

Act as a role model of our Leadership Expectations; Creating Clarity, Driving Change, Enabling Agility, Encouraging Inclusion and Avoiding Derailers whilst driving the same expectation across your leadership team.

Have a key focus on the engagement of our colleagues, both in the people team and the wider business, driving talent initiative’s which go towards improving.

Continually think end to end and working collaboratively with other departments and stakeholders, ensuring what the team deliver makes a difference and is aligned to business strategy.

**About You**:
You will be someone who has previous experience in shaping a talent strategy which acts as an enabler for the business strategy.

You will have the ability to lead with presence, engaging senior stakeholders in strategy and influencing change.

You will have strong leadership skills and ability to engage a Talent and people team in their vision.

You will understand the importance of Employer Brand and have evidence of how they have improved the perception of this previously.

You will have a passion for driving Equity, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives in relation to Talent activity to support the broader strategy.

It would be desirable if you have previously led or worked with in a combined Talent Team which has both Attraction and Development in one.
