**Service / Role Description**
Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea MIND were successful in attracting funding to create two Mental Health Support Team (MHST) as part of the government’s green paper ambitions to transform mental health support in England. This will build on the extensive prevention and early intervention work in schools by MIND Youth Services. These teams are form a significant part of the Integrated Youth Services. They are key and a permanent part of developing early help support across the boroughs.
The teams mainly deliver early intervention, low intensity, and short-term support in learning environments /educational settings as well as support rapid onward access to relevant specialist CAMHS services.
The MHST work flexibly in several educational settings, working alongside education colleagues to develop and provide preventive early help to meet the needs of their pupils and students experiencing low mood and anxiety. The MHST support educational staff with training and consultation as well as assessment and direct support.
This is a trailblazing service with an opportunity to develop the service ensuring the voice of children, young people and their families and education colleagues are heard to find new and innovative ways of working to best meet their needs. The client groups include primary aged children, those in secondary and local colleges and parents/carers.
You will be responsible for providing case management and clinical supervision to the trainee and/or qualified Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) and CWPs. Trainees will be undertaking their placements within the team, as they are being trained to deliver group and individual low intensity CBT interventions to children and young people provided by the Anna Freud Centre. You will support these trainees who require weekly 1:1 supervision to develop their competencies as MH practitioners for children and young people (CYP).
Whilst a significant portion of your time will comprise of supervision support, over time, you will hold an active caseload of children and adolescents with mild - moderate emotional and mental health difficulties. You will also be expected to deliver evidence-based 1:1 and group interventions, employing the principles underpinning the national CYP-IAPT programme (Children and Young People’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies).
Low intensity, early intervention will be delivered in a range of education settings (primary, secondary, special, alternative provision, sixth form and further education colleges). This will include delivering interventions for CYP and parents/carers in education settings, providing training for education professionals and developing the team’s ability to serve the needs of education settings. This builds upon the CCG’s and Mind’s whole school approach to mental health provision.
You will work with CYP and families from different cultural backgrounds, using interpreters when necessary, and should be committed to equal opportunities.
You will also work closely with colleagues and partners in the Local Authority, CAMHS, education settings where interventions are being delivered and other relevant mental health providers.
As a relatively new service and team, you will be actively contributing to the shaping and development of the service, taking the lead on tasks such as developing content for interventions, building team specialisms, creating outreach and communication materials, contributing to the review of local service protocols and models for operation. This role is ideal for someone looking to grow their competencies across service delivery within an early intervention mental health support team for CYP.
