**Job Purpose**
As part of the research team within Development and Alumni (D&A) you will provide research support to fulfil both the University’s strategic fundraising priorities and alumni engagement functions. You will identify, evaluate, and track fundraising prospects and create biographical and associated briefings for D&A colleagues and for the Principal’s Office. You will assist with Campaign-related priority projects on an ad hoc basis.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. Contribute to the fulfilment of the D&A’s prospect research strategy by identifying, researching and rating potential donors amongst high net worth individuals, corporates and trusts & foundations.
2. Develop and manage the prospect pools of fundraisers. Ensure they are appropriately populated, adhere to quality standards and facilitate dynamism in the pool through regular reviewing and liaison with canvassers.
3. Create and use prospect research management reports to facilitate best allocation of prospects, prospect pool management and strategic focus on capacity and inclination.
4. Employ data visualisation in order to analyse prospect pools for most efficient development.
5. Identify, assess and utilise diverse sources of information to the best effect for the tasks in hand.
6. Review of media for relevant intelligence on alumni and potential supporters.
7. Conduct comprehensive database searches to ensure research strategies are optimised.
8. Lead with strategic research projects such as legacy prospects work, reacting to management campaign planning initiatives need for briefing information.
9. Inform and contribute to the creation of D&A event invitation lists and provide relevant biographical briefing for these events.
10. Research and write accurate profiles of individual, corporate and trust prospects. Ensure that briefings are best fit for specific interaction.
11. Contribute to longer term developments and procedures relating primarily to prospect research and to fundraising work of department in general.
12. Carry out due diligence reports in line with D&A gift acceptance policies.
13. Maintain highest standard of research ethics, comply with current data protection regulations and adhere to the department’s due diligence policy.
14. Work in collaboration with the staff across the D&A gathering information for input into systems. You will be expected to help maintain the fundraising database, ensuring that all prospect data is recorded in line with department processes and current regulations, playing your part in keeping prospect and alumni information up-to-date whilst becoming familiar with other specialist research tools.
15. Collaborate with alumni officers on graduate research.
16. Participate in the management of the Research Team Inbox and deal with ad hoc queries.
17. Contribute to ad-hoc Campaign-related project work within the Planning & Development Operations section in the D&A as required.

**Essential**
A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through personal development and progression in a similar related role(s). Or Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 8 (Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4, Higher National Diploma) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role. Educated to degree level or equivalent.
A2 Up-to-date knowledge of GDPR compliant research methods: post holder would have to deal with GDPR queries from fundraising colleagues.
A3 Educated to Degree Level or equivalent.

**Skills**

**Essential**
C1 Evidence of data analytical skills and proven experience in processing and manipulating large data sets: need to be confident using queries in Raiser’s Edge, Excel and preferably data visualisation software such as Tableau.
C3 Ability to manage a varied workload including good time management, working to deadlines when required.
C4 Excellent accuracy and attention to detail with good editing skills.
C5 Good record of attendance and punctuality.
C6 Self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
C7 Ability to work pro-actively, using initiative to anticipate and solve problems.
C8 Flexibility and a willingness to learn new skills and adapt within the role.
C9 Ability to identify suitable fundraising prospects.
C10 Ability to give guidance on prospect research work to colleagues.
C11 Highly organised, with ability to prioritise and meet deadlines under own initiative within a reactive and fast paced changing environment.
C12 Experience and initiative to assist with ad hoc queries.
