As Head of External Affairs your remit will cover the whole of Wales and therefore we can be flexible with the location; you'll be based from your nearest office hub. The role will involve being out and about so you’ll need to be comfortable with travellingaround.

What you'll be doing Reporting into, and working closely with, your Consultancy Manager, the Senior Management Team and our central Heads of Profession, you will work to shape our strategy and support our amazing places across Wales.
You’ll manage and lead a team of External Affairs professionals to deliver our strategy across Wales, you’ll be responsible for providing direction, being clear on priorities, as well as coaching and supporting colleagues.This is a key role in ensuring ourreputation is well managed, so knowledge of reputational management is a must, an ability to work collaboratively and with partners is also essential and a passion for heritage, and the environment would be a great advantage.
You’ll often be consulted by members of our leadership teams at our properties to share your professional knowledge and advice to help their teams work most effectively. In addition, you will work with the broader National Trust External Affairs community nationallyto share knowledge and great practice.

Who we're looking for We are looking for an experienced people manager and leader with a breadth of External Affairs knowledge and experience gained within complex organisations. The ability to communicatein Welsh will be beneficial for the successful person. You will also be able to demonstrate the following:

- Strong professional experience of working in External Affairs, understanding and experience of the political landscape in Wales
- Experience of working and delivering through partnerships and with senior leadership teams and making a proactive contribution to their success
- Creativity and innovation
- People management experience including recruitment, motivation and management of teams across multiple sites
- Strong team working and collaboration, someone who builds relationships and is open, constructive and proactive in sharing knowledge
- Someone who is confident, highly organised and client-focused, with great communication skills and is comfortable working at pace
