Carding Feeder

**Purpose**

To ensure the cleanliness of the card wire on the carding machines.

**Responsibilities**:

- Operating a high speed pneumatic drill to rotate the rollers that need to be fettled.
- Vacuum fettling grease, dirt etc. from the wire on the smaller top rollers.
- Engaging and watching the swifts and doffers during automatic fettling.
- Hand fettling with metal combs on jobs which can’t be vacuum fettled.
- Jack boarding metallic wire to remove surface grease.
- Blowing out metallic wire with combs and nozzles using compressed air.
- Lifting top rollers to give access to hidden rollers which requiring fettling.
- Running machines off prior to fettling and undoing chains, belts, etc.
- Picking ends up after fettling and replacing belts, chains, etc.
- Running on and off rubber ropes to engage and disengage eccentric drives.
- Cleaning around and under the machine.
- Opening and closing the guards on the interlocking system.
- Ensuring fettling nozzles & drill are clean and in good order
- Reporting damaged wire to the carding manager.
- Other ad hoc duties.

**Education/Skills/Experience/Knowledge**
- It is desirable that the applicant must be able to demonstrate a degree of competence in carrying out the tasks involved in fettling
- Good eyesight with or without spectacles is necessary.
- GCSE’s in English and Maths or equivalent

**Personal Qualities**
- Ability to work in a busy and fast paced environment.
- A team player who can also work on their own initiative.
- Flexible and self-motivated.
- Work with attention to detail.

**Shift**:
2pm-1pm
