**Please note - You must be over 18, hold a full valid manual driving licence and a UK national for these roles.**

The Home Office works to build a safe, fair, and prosperous UK. We achieve this through our work on counterterrorism, policing, fire, crime, nationality, and immigration policy.

As part of the Home Office, Border Force is responsible for securing the UK border 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Around 10,000 people work for us, with the majority working in frontline roles in airports and seaports across the UK and overseas.

This is a great opportunity to join a team that really makes a difference and you will receive comprehensive law enforcement training depending on the team you join. The job is varied and rewarding and as part of the Home Office and wider Civil Service there are plenty of opportunities to develop your career with us.

You can find out more about Home Office careers here.

**Job description**:
Border Force check all passengers and freight arriving in the UK by air and sea and conduct intelligence-led searches for prohibited, counterfeit or restricted goods such as drugs, firearms, weapons, cash, tobacco, and alcohol. We also support the department’s wider agenda in high-profile areas such as counter terrorism, tackling organised crime, modern slavery, and human trafficking. This is some of the most important and challenging work in Government and its impact can be felt in communities across the UK.

**Small Boats Operational Command Landside Mobile Response Teams**

This is a demanding operational management role, requiring personal resilience and integrity. You will play a crucial part in the Saving of Lives at Sea operation and Border Security through the initial processing of migrants arriving in small boats. The role consists of close working with other areas of the Home Office, and external contractors, to respond to the increased numbers of small boats crossing the English Channel. You will play a key role, including identifying vulnerable people who require immediate medical or welfare support and the collection of vital information to aid intelligence development and investigations.

The primary workplace for these roles is in Dover and Ramsgate (Manston) although you could be based in Kent, Essex or West Sussex. Official vehicles will be available in designated ports in Essex and West Sussex to enable daily travel to both Dover and Ramsgate. When not required for small boat operations, the teams are likely to be deployed on priority work at other ports, such as, but not limited to Heathrow, Gatwick, Tilbury, London Gateway and Dover. Deployments can be at short notice on shifts that will vary in length and time according to the threat and may require overnight stays. Some priority work will require an immediate response.

Your primary role will be to manage teams as part of the Operational response to small boat arrivals, including search and processing migrants.

You will provide visibility and presence to the general public, and wider support to key Commands and partners including other Border Force teams, Asylum and Protection and the National Crime Agency in all aspects of tackling the wider clandestine threat.

Our officers need to be able to respond to challenges in a calm and professional manner. Due to the work we do and where we do it, Border Force teams can operate in sometimes difficult and dynamic environments. These are public facing law enforcement roles where the work is often fast-paced and changeable.

You will need resilience as you will need to be able to attend for all shifts including early starts, late finishes and, for the Landside Response teams, overnight shifts.

These shifts may be outside of public transport operating hours.

**Person specification**:
As a Landside Response Higher Officer you will be required to:

- Undertake the role of Officer in Charge (OIC) including Critical Incident management as Bronze Commander.
- Manage the operational response to small boats arrivals, undertaking and supervising arrests, searches and seizures in line with guidance and policy.
- Control logistics and conduct effective team deployments.
- Manage and lead a team of Officers, including
