The Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Youth Justice Service is seeking an innovative and enthusiastic Senior Youth Justice Officer. Based within the Gweres tus Yowynk Specialist Adolescent Service, this post offers an exciting opportunity to join a highly experienced multi-disciplinary Youth Justice Service. As we look to re-shape our service to respond to the ever-increasing complex needs of our young people, we are further strengthening our approach to diversion and early intervention to ensure that we make holistic and professional judgements about the children that we can safely and proportionately divert from the formal criminal justice system
You will have a minimum of three years post qualification experience and have substantial experience and expertise in statutory youth justice work and be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of legislation relevant to this area. You will also have an understanding of adolescent development and behaviours, including Trauma Informed Practice, have excellent communication skills and be able to embrace challenge.
This is an exciting time in Youth Justice and increased scope in development and lead in projects and programmes. Within this role there will be a greater emphasis on Prevention, diversion and practice development rather than case management. Areas of responsibility will include:
- Turnaround Programme - practitioner lead (supervising staff)
- Recruitment and retention of volunteers and sessional workers
- Line management of Prevention and Liaison YJOs
- Lead for other areas of practice that need development such as victims, collaboration and participation
- Enhanced Case Management. You will be expected to play a lead role in case formulations to aid the delivery of Enhanced Case Management (ECM).
You will have a proven track record of practice that improves the lives of children and young people and you will be able to evidence how you have applied your learning to your practice.
You will provide statutory supervision for appropriate staff and will be responsible for a small caseload of high and very high-risk cases. You will also complete court duties, write court reports and oversee the work of sessional and volunteer staff.
You will ensure that children, young people and their families are fully involved in the process of assessment, planning and supervision and that their views are taken into account and appropriately recorded.
You will be actively involved in, and will assist others with, ensuring that the necessary information is available and provided for the YJS quality assurance and performance management system (QAPM).
This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.
Whilst the location/work-base for this role may have been specified our evolving ways of working means that the role may require you to also work remotely (e.g., from home/other locations). We will discuss this with you during the recruitment process.
