The Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Youth Justice Service is seeking an innovative and enthusiastic full time Youth Justice Officer (base can be negotiated). We work with children and their families who are at risk of offending and those that have entered the criminal justice system. We also offer a range of out of court disposals and diversionary and preventative interventions

Based within the Gweres tus Yowynk Specialist Adolescent Service, this role offers an exciting opportunities to join a highly experienced multi-disciplinary Youth Justice Service. As we look to re-shape our service to respond to the ever-increasing complex needs of our young people, we are further strengthening our approach to diversion and early intervention to ensure that we make holistic and professional judgements about the children that we can safely and proportionately divert from the formal criminal justice system.

The role will involve effective triage and close partnership working to ensure decisions are defensible and balance risk, public and victim safety with the child’s needs. You will have a relevant qualification and have experience and knowledge in statutory youth justice work. You will need to demonstrate a good knowledge of legislation and current research relevant to this area of work. You will also have an understanding of adolescent development and behaviours, have excellent communication skills and be able to embrace challenge. You will have a proven track record of working with multi agency partners to improves the lives of children and young people. You will be able to evidence how you have applied your learning to your practice.

This full time role will be responsible for a caseload of low to medium risk cases and take an active role in the triage of children at risk of entering the criminal justice system. You will also undertake court duties, write court reports and take the lead in particular areas of service delivery and practice development. You will ensure that children, young people and their families are fully involved in the process of assessment, planning and supervision and that their views are taken into account and appropriately recorded.

This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.

Whilst the location/work-base for this role may have been specified our evolving ways of working means that the role may require you to also work remotely (e.g., from home/other locations). We will discuss this with you during the recruitment process.
