**The Role**:Our client is seeking a passionate and dedicated **Programme Executive** to join the team and support Maritime Skills Commission.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual wishing to gain experience at the heart of a national organisation, driving forward a portfolio of skills projects.
Our client and the Department for Transport established the Maritime Skills Commission to lead the sector’s work in ensuring the maritime sector has a pipeline of talented people to serve all parts of the sector covering shipping, ports, leisure marine, engineering, science and professional services. The Commission was tasked with:
- Understanding the skills needs of the sector, including the effects of technological change, and to make recommendations for action
- Ensuring that no part of the sector suffers from serious skills shortages or skills gaps
- Ensuring that the sector has the apprenticeships and qualifications it needs
- Ensuring the sector has the training provision it needs, (including the use of technology to engage learners and keep costs down)
- Providing employers and individuals with clear information about career paths and re-training options
- Ensuring that employers have good quality recruits for their vacancies through effective promotion of maritime careers
- Increasing exports of maritime education and training
**Key Responsibilities**:
**Project Management**
- Manage Commission workstreams being delivered by Commissioners, consultants and stakeholders to ensure projects are on track and align with objectives and strategic plans. Coordinate current, and future, workstream activities for:
- Cadet Training and Modernisation Programme
- Ratings Review
- Green Skills
- People and Behaviours
- Digital Learning and Skills
- Labour Market Intelligence
- Future Ports Workforce Data Modelling
- Exporting Maritime Education and Training.
**Communications and Stakeholder Engagement**
- Maintaining the Maritime Skills Commission web portal and project pages
- Using social media to promote the Maritime Skills Commission’s updates, calls to actions and reports
- Contacting key stakeholders to support MSC events, report launches, workshops, call-to-evidence sessions and other activities
- Producing Maritime Skills Commission annual report and other workstream reports
- Drafting Maritime Skills Commission press releases, blogs and newsletters.
**Administration**
- Provide regular reports to Department of Transport/Maritime Minister and Maritime UK’s National Council to demonstrate performance against the objectives and relevant grant agreements.
- Arranging briefings and meetings for the Chair of the Commission with Commissioners, Government and Stakeholders.
- Coordinating Maritime Skills Commission meetings including producing agendas and papers and meeting logistics.
- Provide secretariat support to relevant workstreams.
- Help identify industry partners to sponsor the programme or relevant grant funding opportunities.
**Skills and qualifications essential**
- Solid experience in conception to completion delivery of projects
- Managing and developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders and suppliers
- Report writing
- Solid marketing and database skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously, but pitch in to support others when required
- Customer-focused/enjoy working in a team/enjoy working in a membership-focused environment
- Good administration skills with attention to detail
- Ability to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to use own initiative and develop ideas with the team
- Possess the ability to work productively, efficiently and effectively with attention to detail and quality
**Skills and qualifications desirable**
- Experience working in the skills arena
- Policy writing experience
