Primary Care Health Informatics Support Officer

The purpose of the Primary Care Health Informatics Support Officer is to support primary healthcare staff in the delivery of NIHR portfolio adopted research studies, specifically to provide IT support to research-naive primary care organisations with IT aspects of research delivery, most specifically building and running searches for studies and training and mentoring practice staff to support independent activity. Other responsibilities will be to support our busy GP research champions with building and validating searches. In addition, the post-holder will support practices to run social media campaigns and ensure their websites promote research opportunities (where third-party arrangements allow). The post-holder will support updating of the TV&SM primary care toolkit, PRIDES website and other digital resources.
The role will also involve promoting research opportunities and the value of research within Primary Care, identifying and problem-solving barriers to study delivery, and working closely with academic study teams. The post holder will work closely with the GPs and practice staff in the region, the Primary Care Portfolio Manager and all members of the Research Facilitator Team to increase, facilitate and sustain the delivery of NIHR CRN portfolio studies across the LCRN geography.

We are a friendly team of 7, who work from home, with team meetings at Unipart House. The role will report to the Primary Care Portfolio
Manager
IT Support (Main role)
- Support GP staff (admin, practice managers, GPs) to become competent at building and running searches to identify research participants
- Working with GP champions to design, build, validate and run searches in Clinical systems e.g. EMIS Web / SystmOne
- Evaluate the training needs of practice staff then deliver training and mentoring as appropriate to needs in order to ensure practice staff become competent in setting up and running searches in Clinical systems, and proficient in resolving system, network and data errors
- Support practices to run social media campaigns to promote research opportunities
- Ensure practice websites promote research opportunities and provide practical support where possible
- Update the TV&SM primary care toolkit, Primary Care Research Informatics and Digital Environment Solutions (PRIDES) website and other digital resources
- Curate training resources and develop new resources as needed.
- Develop good working relationships with research active and research interested healthcare staff
- Act as a resource and support to primary care sites and other primary care practitioners involved in the identification and recruitment of patients to NIHR studies using project management methodologies and tools
- Support GP practices to deliver clinical research which could potentially include; calling participants, running searches on the practice system, sending texts messages and completing mail outs and use of Docmail, and coding of research activities. Provide & receive complex or sensitive information; provide advice, instruction or training to groups
- Proactively suggest changes to service provision to manager
- Maintain internal research activity database
Research Promotion (Supplementary role)
In addition to the IT role, we would expect some support to be provided to our research facilitator team:

- Promote the value of research to clinicians, patients, service users, and the wider NHS
- Promote research opportunities to practices and encourage their participation
- Develop good working relationships with research active and research interested healthcare staff to enhance and develop the success of NIHR CRN TVSM Primary Care
- Work in conjunction with the Primary Care Portfolio Manager and Research Facilitator team to raise the profile of NIHR CRN TVSM within the region. This may include working to develop strategies in order to overcome barriers to engagement and/or recruitment
- Attend meetings with primary care healthcare professionals, NIHR CRN TVSM staff
- Promote and monitor the Research Site Initiative (RSI) scheme
- Support the Primary Care Portfolio Manager in the preparation of reports
Education and Training
- To become an expert in training on topics that are relevant to primary care health informatics and systems
- To maintain an up to date knowledge of research related topics particularly related to clinical trials and the activities of the CRN
- To act as a role model, mentor and preceptor to the network team

- To work independently and autonomously across organisations within the region to support NIHR research studies
