This is a great opportunity for an experienced Sonographer to become the Lead Sonographer for the Clinical Imaging ultrasound service at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust.

The successful person will be responsible for the line management of the Clinical Imaging Sonography team, working closely with the obstetric and gynae midwife Sonographers to deliver all aspects of ultrasound services to the population of Cornwall.

As part of the multi-disciplinary team, and under the non-direct supervision of a consultant radiologist the post-holder will utilise their advanced level knowledge and skills to:
perform accurate clinical procedures appropriate to area of practice, from undertaking history taking and examination of the patient, including further invasive testing, diagnostics and treatments requiring highly developed skills and precision

analyse and respond to highly complex information from multiple sources in making clinical judgements and decisions regarding diagnoses, treatment, and management plans. This may involve responding to conflicting views and opinions, seeking advice when scope of practice is exceeded

produce accurate and complete documentation and patient records consistent with legislation, policies, and procedures

receive, process, and communicate highly complex information requiring persuasive, motivational, reassuring, and empathetic communication skills to maximise co-operation with care and treatment programmes, often about complex, sensitive and potentially distressing information

anticipate and effectively respond to barriers to communication, ensuring patients, families and carers are kept fully informed and consent to treatment is maintained.

act as a resource for staff advising on local, Trust and national policy, procedures and guidelines ensuring patient safety and clinical governance

Responsible for the operational running and budgetary management of the NOUS Ultrasound department, ensuring that service delivery is optimised within the resources available, to manage those resources effectively and endeavour to match resources to clinical demand.

To play a lead role in the strategic planning of the NOUS Ultrasound service within Clinical Imaging.

Participate in general management of the Imaging department and assist other Directorates in the appointment of ultrasound Practitioners - Midwife Sonographers and Trainees.

Responsible for the management and delivery of the NOUS Ultrasound service for RCHT and community sites.

To collaborate closely with the Obstetric Lead Sonographer and Heads of Midwifery, the Fetal Medicine department, and Midwife Sonographer colleagues to ensure seamless delivery of Obstetric Ultrasound services across the multidisciplinary team.

Manage a team of Band 6-8b specialist sonographers and be responsible for the team’s health, safety, and staff development.

Responsible for managing and prioritising workload within the department and ensure the rotation of work is allocated in a fair and even manner.

Investigate any complaints from patients, staff or visitors relating to the Ultrasound department and provide incident report / feedback to the appropriate Trust authority and any Ultrasound staff involved.

To work as a specialist sonographer in general and obstetric ultrasound and act as a source of expertise to other members of the multidisciplinary team.

To supervise the Training Link Sonographer in the appointment, training, and assessment of Trainee Sonographers

Work across professional boundaries as part of a multi-disciplinary team to improve patient outcomes.

To have a leading role in managing Ultrasound equipment across the Trust and act as a source of specialist knowledge for the Imaging Service Lead in the appointment and management of an appropriate manufacturer to run a Managed Equipment Service for Ultrasound units within the Trust.
