Derbyshire County Council are seeking an Assistant Director of Finance (Audit) who will be responsible for leading, shaping and delivering the strategies and objectives of an efficient and effective Audit and Risk Service ensuring an independent appraisalfunction across the Council and the effective discharge of the right to require across all council areas.

You will ensure audits and risk assessments are undertaken professionally in line with the Council’s Annual Audit Plan and adequate controls and standards are in place to safeguard the Council and deliver successful outcomes in relation to risk and governanceframeworks.

You will lead on the development and review of the annual strategic Audit Plan. Lead and take responsibility for, the identification, operational management and review of specific projects, investigative Audit work and compliance with associate Standards.

**Key Responsibilities:**
- Responsible for the independence and objectivity of the Audit and Risk function and providing overall assurance on the effectiveness of the Councils controls and systems, in order to discharge its statutory responsibilities.
- Lead on the development and review of the annual strategic Audit Plan. Lead and take responsibility for, the identification, operational management and review of specific projects, investigative Audit work and compliance with associate Standards
- Lead on the Councils internal controls to ensure that risks and frauds are identified and raised with Executive Directors at the earliest opportunity.
- Be the organisations key expert, providing advice and guidance to the Cabinet and Corporate Management Team on key Audit and Risk management issues.

**Qualifications Required:**
- CCAB/CIPFA
- Management qualification or equivalent relevant senior management experience
- Evidence of continuing Professional Development

**Experience Required**:

- Extensive post qualification experience in a diverse range of appropriate Audit and Risk disciplines
- Experience of defining and leading governance and risk frameworks
- Substantial knowledge of local government, Audit and Risk services and internal control frameworks
- Extensive knowledge of audit and risk management as well as the principles in both practical and theoretical terms, underlying successful audit and risk controls across an organisation
- Able to provide vision and direction to individuals and teams so as to gain commitment and ownership
