We have an exciting opportunity for a Communications and Engagement Officer to join the Primary Care Improvement Team on a 18 month fixed term or secondment. The post of Communication and Engagement Officer Primary Care Improvement Plan is a key role within Lanarkshire's dedicated Primary Care Improvement Team. The job exists to ensure the effective communication and engagement of the development, delivery and implementation of the Primary Care Improvement Plan (PCIP) supporting the delivery of the GMS Contract, with the media, staff, the public and other external stakeholders.

The overall aim of the PCIP is to oversee the implementation of modernised, redesigned and integrated health & social care services responsive to the needs of the local population by ensuring the highest quality of care within the financial resources available.

The PCIP supports the delivery of the national 2018 General Medical Services (GMS) contract which, in essence, aims to refocus the role of GPs as expert medical generalists - working with a wider team to provide more care in the community.

In the development of new ways of working in primary care we are in diagnostic and testing phase to examine other clinical and service models, adopting an approach that places the person at the centre of care, dismantles the traditional interfaces, utilises the entire assets within communities and directs professionals to where they may have the most significant impact on patient care. Our approach acknowledges that it is no longer acceptable to simply tinker at the edges of care; for this to have an impact that is likely to have the necessary effect, a truly transformational approach to developing new models of care is required.

The scope and scale of our approach in Lanarkshire must be viewed as transformational and a whole-system change process. It is aligned with and complements work that is taking place in parallel to shape NHS Lanarkshire’s Healthcare Strategy, Joint Commissioning Strategies in both North and South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnerships, consider services across a 24/7 time continuum and be consistent with approaches already being implemented in other parts of the system.

The post advertised is a key role with a team linked into a system wide approach and will be linked to the Communications Manager, NHS Lanarkshire and will have access to peer support from Communication Officers in NHS Lanarkshire.
