**Reporting to**:After School Club Manager

**Salary and benefits**:

- £14.01 per hour for 17.5 hours per week for 37 weeks of the year during schoolterms
- 20 days FTE paid holiday and 10 days FTE paid bank holidays, equating to 105 hours of paid holiday annually (6 weeks FTE x 17.5 hrs per week)
- Paid across 12 months in even monthly salary payments.
- Auto-enrollment to a 4% pension scheme.

**Core Hours**:

- Monday to Thursday 2:30pm to 5:30pm and Friday 11:30am to 5:00pm.
- Overtime may be available if necessitated by Club operations.

**About the Club**

Clermiston After School club is a voluntary committee led,not for profit club operating within Clermiston Primary School. We offer after school care to a maximum of 30 children per day. We are looking for a Play Leader to support the committee, Manager and colleagues to be the best that we can be and provide the best service possible for our children. This individual needs to be a brilliant communicator, fun, flexible and organised.

**1. Job purpose**:

- To assist in leading the After School Club (the Club) team on a day-to-day basis, supporting the Manager and ensuring that the children receive a high standard of care.
- To assist in the development and daily management of the Club.
- To provide a safe, caring and stimulating environment for children.
- To maintain the safety, welfare and good conduct of the pupils during the after school club.

**2. Main responsibilities include but not limited to**:

- To support the Manager and team in delivering the smooth daily operation of the Club.
- To be present in the Club during Core Hours: Monday to Thursday 2:30pm to 5:30pm and
Friday 11:30am to 5:00pm, 37 weeks of the year.
- To fill in the daily register and take immediate action to establish the whereabouts of any child that is expected but who has not arrived.
- To assist in coordinating activities to ensure that each and every child receives high quality care and are provided with a good programme of activities
- To take part in weekly staff meetings and suggest projects, activities and sports, leveraging suggestions made by the children
- Work with the Manager and team to ensure that the Club complies with regulations and guidance from the Care Inspectorate and SSSC for the time being in force.
- To take a solution driven approach to decision making using a clear and sound knowledge of childhood practice and child development
- On Club opening days, to participate in meetings as necessary to share essential information, to ensure all staff are aware of plans and expectations.
- To communicate confidently and professionally with parents.
- To respond to parental comments and concerns with sensitivity, interest and respect.
Maintain confidentiality at all times and communicate well with the team and Manager to address any issues or concerns.
- To deal appropriately with any challenging behaviours, record and discuss with the Manager or parents/carers when appropriate
- To support and assist the manager in monitoring spend in some areas of the Club activities.

To assist the weekly planning of activities for the children who attend the Club, taking into account the children’s individual needs and interests.

To plan and procure healthy drinks and snacks, taking into account the dietary requirements of the children.

**Training, qualifications and registrations**
- Holds an existing registration with the SSSC, or full eligibility to register prior to commencement of employment;
- Holds an existing clean PVG with Disclosure Scotland, or full eligibility to pass PVG checks prior to commencement of employment;
SSSC-approved equivalent:

- Modern Apprenticeship Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF level 7 ;
- SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF level 7 ;
- HNC Childhood Practice at SCQF level 7.

**Previous Experience**

Demonstrable experience of working with primary school aged children
