**Job purpose**:
To contribute effectively to the management of pastoral care and to be accountable for the day to day supervision of the pastoral support team if required.

To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students.

**Reporting to**:
Director of Education, Principal, Senior Leadership Team, Pastoral Lead

**Responsible for - Staff**

Principal, Senior Leadership Team, other members of staff - teaching and non-teaching, LA, parent/carers

**Key Responsibilities**

To assist the Pastoral and Welfare Lead with safeguarding and child protection

To support the leadership and management with the development, implementation and monitoring of the school pastoral care function

To identify, monitor, evaluate and support student progress tracking and target setting.

To mentor and supervise students when required, including social times

To liaise regularly with parents/carers.

To work with the relevant senior manager to identify students who are vulnerable.

To support the Pastoral Lead to develop, implement and maintain appropriate information and recording systems to provide management reports as required.

To support the Pastoral Lead in ensuring that the principles of care, guidance and support are there to impact on pupil/student attainment.

To provide counselling/mentoring where appropriate or to act as link to relevant agencies.

To plan and deliver pastoral interventions on a range of issues and to plan and deliver extra-curricular opportunities as appropriate.

To ensure the maintenance of accurate up-to-date information concerning the relevant area.

To implement and maintain robust reporting systems to monitor and evaluate the pastoral function and to be responsible for child protection documentation.

To assist with the development relevant school policies and procedures and ensure they are effectively implemented.

To contribute to the development of effective links with partner schools, the community.

To ensure the principles of care, guidance and support impact on pupil/student attainment

**Safeguarding**

To support the Pastoral Lead to initiate and coordinate referrals to social care, attending and contributing reports for relevant meetings and keeping careful records of actions, liaising with school staff.

To deputise in the absence of the Pastoral Lead.

To support the Pastoral Lead in responding in a timely manner to safeguarding concerns to ensure pupils are kept safe from harm.

To support the Pastoral Lead to pro-actively work with parents/carers and other agencies through joint planning and monitoring of their arrangements for the safeguarding of children

To support staff who make referrals to local authority children’s social care.

To support staff who make referrals to the Channel programme.

To support the Pastoral Lead in keeping detailed, accurate and secure written child protection documentation.

To support the Pastoral Lead to encourage good practice by promoting and championing the school’s safeguarding and child protection policy and procedures and ensure staff can access and understand the policy and procedures

To support the Pastoral Lead to respond appropriately to disclosures or concerns which relate to the well-being of a child and provide alerts to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) (Principal) when these happen.

To maintain accurate, confidential and up-to-date documentation on all cases of safeguarding and child protection and provide reports where required.

To support the Pastoral Lead to ensure that vulnerable pupils who are victims of abuse and maltreatment are supported appropriately and sensitively and that all agreed actions are successfully carried out and monitored
