Management and LeadershipOn behalf of the Director of Nursing, Midwifery & AHPs, the post holder will take lead responsibility for the development of an NGH advanced practice strategy which reflects local, regional, and national priorities. This is supported by the Deputy Director of Nursing. To develop and review the long-term Advanced Practice strategy in partnership with stakeholders, including the divisions, identifying interdependencies across projects/functions and measure potential impacts on the wider organisation. To take overall lead responsibility in providing effective professionalleadership and governance to the AP teams across the trust.

Represent the Deputy Director of Nursing at trust, ICS, regional and national level if required.

Work in partnership with hospital group that form University HospitalsNorthamptonshire to provide collaborative approach to advanced practice. To develop an AP clinical governance structure across the trust ensuring that continuous learning, quality assurance and quality improvement are embedded. To facilitate standardisation of ACP and advanced roles across NGH determining a trust training pathway for advanced practice in conjunction with divisions and local higher education institutions (HEI). Develop and maintain effective working relationships with local HEI providers whilst considering the financial implications and alternative methods of learning.

To identify resources and effectively communicate with divisions to ensure annual training needs analysis and secure appropriate utilisation of resources. To provide expert clinical leadership in the development and delivery of new systems and processes which facilitate improved AP recruitment, training, development, and retention. To provide senior professional trust leadership for APs to motivate, inspire and develop trainee APs and registered APs in achieving excellence in their role. Develop and lead forums for Advanced Practice and Enhanced Practice at NGH, escalating concerns as appropriate.

Serve as a representative on the nursing and midwifery board, the nursing and midwifery senate, co-chair the non-medical prescribing forum and other applicable trust groups e.g. medicines safety and governance group. Establish effective means of engaging and involving patients, carers and the wider public in the development and evaluation of the strategy for AP. Identify challenges that may accompany the implementation of an AP long term strategy and direct or influence the necessary measures to overcome them.

Provide a range of solutions to highly complex situations that may exhibit unique characteristics and where opinion may differ or there is incomplete information available. Alongside the divisional senior teams manage and support submissions offuture AP business plans and support the current AP budget. Lead and participate on timely recruitment within directorates and supporting the implementation of new roles. Liaising closely with trust human resources and recruitment department to ensure recruitment best practice is maintained.

Play a key role in the development of the future NGH people strategy, acting as an expert resource in planning alternative non-medical roles. Work in partnership with the divisional senior teams in developing and driving AP workforce implementation and development. To be an available knowledge resource in how to initiate and manage the impact of change related to Advanced and Enhanced Practice.Provide support for the development of skills and competencies within the nonmedical workforce. To work collaboratively and strategically with divisions, HEIs and key stakeholders across the AP training pathway.
