About the Job:
We are seeking experienced male carer(s) for an older disabled gentleman in the Kinmel Bay area. The gentleman is completely dependent on a mixed 24 hour care package and you will need to exhibit a professional commitment and care regimen, with an appropriate background of training/experience. However, we may consider applicants without this experience whom demonstrate a compassionate and mature outlook, with a willingness to learn how to perform the variety of tasks necessary in a domiciliary situation.

The package is overseen by the BCUHT Circuit Nursing Team and SSD so it will be necessary to show commitment to working in a small home based team, which complements an already established pattern of professional care. The package is geared to the clients progressive condition and changing needs. You will join our small but dedicated team, which displays the professionalism and sense of humour necessary to provide a real caring role to a very independently-minded gentleman. £12.00 per hour.

Responsible to: your employer the client and senior carers.

Main Tasks:
Wake client at 8.10am and assist him to get ready for the day. This will include using a tracking hoist for toileting (using a commode) and bathing on certain days. Duties include washing, shaving, cleaning teeth, brushing hair, dressing and administering medication, with the utmost regard for the client’s safety, comfort and dignity.

Prepare meals including breakfast and light lunches and assist client to eat and drink

Assist client with all toileting, as and when required

The client will decide how to spend his day according to his own wishes, but may include a change the daily routine, ie appointments etc. You will be expected to perform domestic duties e.g. clear away and wash dishes, tidy bedroom, car washing, ironing etc. as well as any other duties necessary, in between the main care tasks, but these ancillary tasks will be dependent on the client’s health/care needs, which will take priority

You will occasionally be required to accompany the client to medical appointments, shopping or other activities, using the client’s specially adapted car. You will need to transfer the client in and out of the car using a sling for the car hoist, with the utmost regard for the client’s safety and comfort

You will occasionally be required to assist the client to use a computer

You have a duty to report defects and/or hazards which may give rise to an accident

Any other duty in line with the requirements of the role

Person Specification:
Establish a professional standard of care which should be maintained at all times, be prepared to undertake relevant training as required; training regarding manual handing will be provided by employer

Have a friendly and caring attitude, with the ability to build a trusting relationship

Respect and safeguard the goods and property of the employer

You will occasionally be required to assist the client to use a computer, so computer skills desirable

Non smoker preferred

Driver preferred but not essential if you are local to the client - you may occasionally be accompanying the client to appointments or other events but expectations are that these will be mínimal.

Respect the privacy of the employer and uphold confidentiality at all times

Be punctual, enthusiastic, and reliable, and have some degree of flexibility
