Advanced Clinical Speciality Fellowship (Haematology)

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of patients with haematological malignancy on the Haematology Trials Unit. There will be an opportunity to develop research projects in clinical trials and translational science, and training will focus on the design, setting up and execution of clinical research.

The post is available from May 2024.

The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

Our values, standards and behaviours define the quality of clinical care we offer and the professional relationships we make with our patients, colleagues and the wider community. We call this Delivering Compassionate Excellence and its focus is on our values of compassion, respect, learning, delivery, improvement and excellence. These values put patients at the heart of what we do and underpin the quality healthcare we would like for ourselves or a member of our family. Watch how we set out to deliver compassionate excellence via the OUH YouTube channel.

**Clinical and Research Responsibilities**:
Inpatient and outpatient care of haematological cancer patients being treated as part of trials performed on the Haematology trial Unit and selected trials being run through the late phase trials team.

In close collaboration with a dedicated senior clinical-academic mentor, the Advanced fellow will select a major research project question, lasting the two years. This may include new clinical trial design and development, data analysis of a unique large database, or pursuing a translational project with clinical outcomes in collaboration with a research laboratory or industry. The ACSF will be expected to present this proposal early in the post to the ACSF senior panel, including external advisors, industry colleagues for peer review and evaluation. In addition, smaller projects with discrete and more rapid outcomes may be completed, e.g. descriptive clinical papers. It is expected that all research findings will be communicated at national and international conferences, result in publications communicated to patients and stakeholders.

It is expected that ACSFs will be outstanding clinicians and fully contribute to clinical care, clinical decision making, team-based activity and clinical leadership. A fixed timetable of activity will be developed that includes multi-disciplinary meetings and clinical practice. All ACSFs will participate in general oncology and haematology acute services, such as management of acute emergencies and complications from treatment. These will be limited and on a rotational basis. In addition, experience in service development of advanced therapies specifically will be encouraged as a leadership experience is seen as an essential component of the unique training offered.

Preparation of results for publication.
