Senior Sonography Lead

This is an exciting opportunity to lead on the development of the Sonography education workstream for theSouthEast region Imaging Training Academy [SE ITA],working as part of the core leadership team.
The Mike Richards’ Diagnostic Recovery and Renewal report (2020) sets out the need to radically transform diagnostic services and invest in equipment, facilities, and workforce. This report recommends that training academies are established to support acceleration in high quality training as workforce is recognised as our most valued asset.
Training academies provide multi-professional environments where training and education of the future workforce is the primary focus, maximising the expertise of experienced educators and supervisors across a broad patch. The overall aim is to increase the number of learners transitioning to the workforce utilising the academy model to increase training capacity, to provide a high quality and enhanced training experience and to accelerate learning to independent practice.
As a member of the core leadership team, the post holder will be responsible for:
- Providing professional Sonography expertise.
- Leading the development of a sustainable workforce supply pipeline of sonographers to the south east region, including direct entry, apprenticeships, and postgraduate training.
- Working with imaging networks, community diagnostic centres [CDCs], and other stakeholders to determine what education and training is needed in order to meet Sonography service requirements across the south east, and to co-ordinate appropriate multidisciplinary education utilising the SE Imaging Training Academy simulation equipment across all hub sites.
- Defining current processes, facilitate discussions and advise colleagues as to how best practice might be adopted relating to the supply and upskilling of Sonographers in the south east.
- To scope, identifying and developing the profession-specific educational content to be delivered across multiple levels of practice to increase high quality and flexible sonography training capacity across the south east, and to agree the role of the Imaging Training Academy in this space.
The post is professionally and managerially accountable to the Imaging Training Academy Leads.
Please note
- this role can be based at Chancellor Court, Oxford or Explorer House, Southampton but will mainly involve remote working - all equipment will be provided.

Applicants will commence at the bottom of Band 8b with a full-time starting salary of £58,972, with a pay step increase after 5 years’ service.
