**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Work in a responsible, safe and efficient manner around high security animals.
- Observing the behavior, health and security of animals and reporting any issues to the team leader or senior staff; ensuring that conditions for animals are of the highest standards
- Assisting with the preparation of approved diets and carrying out the correct feeding procedures.
- Cleaning and maintaining exhibits and designing enrichment devices.
- Ensuring that safety and emergency procedures are always followed.
- To assist in maintaining established husbandry training programs for animals using positive re-enforcement.
- Supporting positive visitor experiences by good customer service and professional visitor engagement.
- Assist in record keeping.
**Person Specification**:
- Proven practical experience of animal management with a range of carnivore species.
- Have strong attention to detail and safe working practices with high security animals.
- Have a passion to work on evolving husbandry management techniques within zoological collections to include positive re-enforcement training for behavioural management and varied methods of enrichment for a range of species.
- Be able to demonstrate initiative with a pro-active approach to completing tasks beneficial to the section/department without always waiting to be asked.
- Be able to work in a team and have good communication skills.
- Have good familiarity with external zoo associations such as BIAZA and EAZA.
- Have either a high-level qualification in a relevant field, DMZAA Keeper’s course or equivalent work experience.
- Be reliable and have good timekeeping and attendance record and able to demonstrate professionalism and excellent team ethic.
**Please note, the general physical demand classification of this role is heavy work. Tasks will include pushing, pulling, bending and lifting weights ranging from 25 to 100 pounds.**
