Housing Support Worker

**Job Summary**
- To deliver a range of wrap around, holistic interventions including life skills support, learning support and move on support to prevent and reduce youth and adult homelessness and prepare young people and adults for independent living.
- To work with young people and adults to support them in practical daily living including referral to the appropriate agencies as required, to prevent and reduce homelessness and enable clients to move on to independent living.
- To provide a housing management service to move on and general let properties to include the management of tenancy breaches, support more vulnerable customers and ensure that anti-social behavior is addressed and prevented by working collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies.

**Main duties & responsibilities**

1. To engage, support and motivate homeless individuals with high and complex needs.

2. Complete needs assessment, risk assessments and support plans for all service users.

3. To work with young people and adults to support them in practical daily living including referral to the appropriate agencies as required, to enable them to move on to independent living.

4. To support young people and adults into education, training, learning and leisure activities.

5. Carry out regular inspections of the supported living accommodation and prioritising fire safety risk assessment follow up work.

6. Provide up-to-date relevant and appropriate information, advice and guidance on a range of issues including housing, welfare, finance and associated tenancy management responsibilities

7. Maintain accurate and current records in line with data protection policies and procedures.

8. Work collaboratively with local partners such as safer neighbourhood teams, the voluntary sector and youth services on neighbourhood safety and ASB issues, attend ad hoc or routine meetings as appropriate.

9. Visit customers in breach of their tenancy or lease agreement where tasked to do so.

10. Conduct viewings and sign ups with new tenants.

11. Attend court to represent Birchwood on and/or provide witness statements as required in respect of ASB and rent arrears.

12. Checks on property condition as required for the purpose of tenancy compliance and property standards.

13. Responsibility for maintaining performance in respect of lettings and income recovery in line with agreed KPI’s.

8. Comply with all Birchwood Centre’s policies and procedures.

9. Undertake appropriate Induction and any mandatory training.

**Qualifications**:
Minimum of NVQ level 2 or equivalent experience

Experience in working within the social housing sector

**Essential Skills & Abilities**:
Experience of providing good customer service

Experience of dealing with customers in person

Experience of working with external partners

Experience of working to plans and targets

The ability to exercise good judgement

Willing to respond at short notice in the event of a major incident

A clear commitment to equality and diversity principles and practices in service provision and employment

Able to work early evenings and occasional weekends if required

Driving licence

**Salary**: £24,000.00 per year
