London, United Kingdom London Tri-Borough Councils Full time

**Job Summary**:
**Salary range**: £37,575 - £41,286 per annum
**Work location**: London
**Hours per week**: 36
**Contract type**: Permanent
**Closing date**:28th May 2024
**Interview date**: 6th June 2024

**About Us**:
**Can you help us deliver open and transparent decision-making?**

The Council is committed to ‘Putting Residents First’ which, in governance terms, means we work hard to factor the needs and aspirations of local people into decision-making and scrutiny, and to provide responsive support to the councillors who represent them. We look to ensure that stakeholders can, at an early stage, influence decisions and issues that affect them and that such decisions are taken in an open and transparent way.

**The Role**:
As a member of the Governance Team, you will be a key player in delivering high-quality decision making and scrutiny arrangements. Working in our supportive and well-connected Team at the heart of this busy local authority, your commitment to local democracy will help ensure that the Council’s governance and councillor support arrangements evolve and remain ’fit for purpose’ and that we grasp new opportunities to involve local people.

Your varied responsibilities will include preparation and publication of agendas and reports for committee meetings; writing minutes and tracking progress; supporting committee chairs and scrutiny councillors; administering the Forward Plan of Decisions; and giving advice to senior colleagues and councillors.

These are high profile functions that will quickly put you in contact with senior councillors and officers across the Council, so you will always need to demonstrate impartial professionalism, confidence and develop an instinctive feel for how best to support councillors and resolve problems. You will also play an important role in embedding IT solutions that will better support new ways of meeting and committee management.

Please refer to the **Job Description** for more information.

**About You**:
We’re looking for someone with excellent written and spoken English, good IT, and organisational skills, plus an enthusiasm for local democracy - someone who is confident and relishes the challenge of ‘getting things done’ and of supporting democratically elected councillors deliver for local people. You needn’t have had previous experience in a governance role, but we are looking for someone who has some previous administrative experience, sound organisational and interpersonal skills, and a willingness to learn. You will thrive here if you are someone who enjoys finding solutions to problems; who can quickly adapt to change; and who wants actively to pursue opportunities for professional development.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and a generous annual leave entitlement.

You’ll be based in modern, well-equipped offices at Kensington Town Hall, but we encourage hybrid/flexible working. Please note that this role will involve some evening work as our committee meetings are mostly held at 6.30pm.
