**Subject Specialist (Secondary Computing and Digital)**:
**This is a permanent position; 37 hours per week**:
**Purpose of the Role**:
The National Centre for Computing Education aims to improve the quality and impact of computing teaching in primary and secondary state-maintained schools and colleges in England, so that all pupils, regardless of their background, leave school with the digital knowledge and skills they need to participate in a digital society and access the jobs of the future.

The Subject Specialist will work to:

- Support the development, deployment, and quality assurance of an evidence-based national teacher professional development programme, online and face-to-face, through the National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE)'s Computing Hub Network and National STEM Learning Centre, covering computing and digital education across secondary and further education.
- Support the development of a team of accredited CPD Professional Development Leaders, in computing and digital, across England
- Represent STEM Learning and the NCCE in forums including key partners such as learned bodies and governmental agencies.
- Support authoring, quality assurance and curation of a rich bank of teaching resources linked to computing and digital skills, including cutting edge topics across the STEM curriculum.
- Maintain effective relationships with stakeholders and partners in computing and digital education, and across relevant industrial partners, supporting the wider organisation in innovation and fundraising.
- Stay abreast of leading practice and the latest research in computing education, nationally and internationally, translating for a variety of audiences and purposes.
- Contribute to public-facing communications and publications, promoting school support for computing and digital education and driving engagement
- Help to ensure that KPIs for programme reach and impact, across all NCCE and STEM Learning work-streams, are met or exceeded.

**Key Results and Accountabilities**:
Working with STEM Learning programme teams and NCCE Computing Hubs, Science Learning Partnerships, STEM Ambassador hubs and other partners;
- Support the development and provision of quality assured, evidence based professional development for teachers. This includes, but is not limited to:

- the development, quality assurance and continuous improvement of relevant, evidence-informed and coherent CPD content for classroom teachers in key stages 3-4, and post-16, in collaboration with expert partners including specialist Computing Hubs
- evaluating and improving the impact of professional learning and development on teachers, their students, and schools and colleges in general, through a variety of means - to raise standards, close attainment and participation gaps, and meet national and local priorities.
- A particular emphasis on schools, colleges and those young people which can benefit most, specifically educational engagement particularly in Education Investment Areas and other identified areas of underachievement
- Supporting the development and curation of a collection of relevant, high-quality resources to support CPD, drawing on research evidence and programme evaluation.
- Supporting the increased capacity, capability and credibility development of a team of high-quality trainer-presenters in line with NCCE standards for accreditation and certification, and quality assuring their subsequent deployment.
- Helping to ensure the NCCE programme achieves its targets in terms of, quality, impact and reach of its interventions, supporting the full range of schools and colleges.
- Ensuring that all teachers, support staff, schools and colleges are aware of and able to benefit from an appropriate, effective range of professional development, resources, careers and other support, including that provided in various ways (and via various funding streams) through
- STEM Ambassador Hubs
- Project ENTHUSE
- The National STEM Learning Centre and its associated programmes and activities;

By doing the above, ensure that STEM Learning achieves its ambitions for STEM education and builds capacity, capability & sustainability for on-going improvements in computing and digital education.
