**Sports Coach (Level 2) Action Van**

**Dorchester based, casual hours**

**Hourly rate from £12.70 to £14.71**

Be part of the Action Van sports outreach team that provides exciting and engaging activities to children and young people across Dorset. We are looking for experienced sports and physical activity instructors who, like us, want young people to be active and healthy and to enjoy taking part in sport throughout their lives.

We are a team of sports coaches, leaders and fitness instructors, regularly visiting primary schools during the week, youth groups, uniform groups and community events in the evenings and at weekends.

**What you will be doing**

The Action van is one of the services provided by the Sports Development Unit and (from time to time) there may be opportunities to be involved with other projects that this department manages.

There are staff training opportunities including safeguarding and first aid, plus team training where leaders and coaches receive updates and share ideas and good practice.

**About you**

Qualifications:
Level 2 sports specific coaching qualification or equivalent in one or more sports.
Level 2 generic sports coaching qualification.
Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults
First Aid

**Experience**:
Working in a team in a sports or other environment
Supervision of assistant coaches or volunteers.
Planning and delivering longer term coaching plans as well as individual sessions.

Skills, abilities & knowledge:
Effective communication - with individuals, groups and with colleagues to help plan, set up, run and review sessions.
Problem solving - able to make decisions and use own discretion to ensure activities are safe and enjoyable.
Adaptable - be able to adapt activities to ensure sessions meet the needs of the group, particularly for disabled participants.
Effective coaching skills - to run sessions for various ages and abilities that are progressive, inclusive, motivating and effective.
Physically fit - able to stand for up long periods, keep up with activities and support children if appropriate.
Policies and guidance - have a sound understanding of policies and guidance associated with the delivery of sports particularly those relating to safeguarding.
Knowledge of health and safety, in a sports environment and when working with young children.

**Additional information**

Due to the service being mobile having a clean driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential. The ability to drive a large van is an advantage.

Being available to work an afternoon or some afternoons during the week would be an advantage as we are experiencing high demand from schools.
