**Position Summary**

We are seeking to hire a Senior Technical Underwriter to join our London Healthcare team.

The role will work under technical direction, responsible for underwriting a range of moderate and complex risks in a Medical Malpractice book of business. Works within specific limits of authority on assignments requiring significant technical complexity and coordination. Utilises underwriting policies and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations while finding creative solutions. Accountable for technical competence for scope of responsibility including technical leadership and coaching.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Comply with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements and ensure, at a level appropriate to the position, that appropriate measures are in place to ensure this compliance
- Define appropriate pricing based on financial and competitive analysis in line with compliance requirements.
- Prepare quotations and answer questions from Brokers, policyholders or other external contacts and escalate issues to management, along with proposed solutions as necessary. Negotiate with Brokers to reach positive and profitable outcomes.
- Notifiy Brokers of adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, underwriting requirements, status and declinations.
- Analyse quality and quantity of risks underwritten and prepare reports for management review.
- Market products and services through the brokerage community and make field visits. Develop and maintain Broker relationships.
- Provide guidance and assistance to other underwriters and to other functional areas, particularly when related to cross-sell opportunities.
- Keep current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends and freely share information with others.
- Utilise advanced functionality in relevant CNA systems to perform day-to-day activities.
- Work with more senior underwriters and management on risks exceeding authority level or requiring special handling.
- Contribute to the development of technical underwriting guidelines and best practices, including controls and procedures. Underwrite improvements and changes to ensure processes are simple and fit for purpose.
- Ensure underwriting and technical best practice is strongly embedded.
- Work across multiple lines of business teams to ensure underwriting quality, technical standards and governance controls are clear and maintained.
- May perform additional duties as agreed.

**Skills, Knowledge & Experience**
- A proven track record of working within Medical Malpractice from either an Underwriting or Broker background.
- In depth knowledge of the Medical Malpractice market and products, across the UK and International space and within Complex, Allied & Affinity
- Appropriate knowledge of all relevant regulatory and legal requirements.
- Very strong technical knowledge of underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices.
- Demonstrated high level of technical expertise and product specific knowledge.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills. Ability to effectively interact with CNA's internal and external business partners at all levels.
- Capacity to work pro-actively and independently.
- Strong ability to identify, analyse and solve problems as well as to learn rapidly, adapt quickly to change, and manage and prioritise multiple concurrent projects.
- Skilled in exercising independent judgment and making critical business decisions effectively.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.
- Demonstrated leadership skills within technical expertise
