The role involves coordinating the metastatic spinal cord compression (MSCC) pathway for patients with impending, confirmed or suspected MSCC as per the Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Alliance Network MSCC group.
You will work alongside other clinical colleagues in oncology, neurosurgery, palliative care, acute medicine and radiology to ensure quality of care to the patients is maximised. This is a pivotal role to ensure effective decision making between disciplines to ensure prompt, appropriate management for each patient. The role will involve supporting the patient and family through the diagnosis of MSCC. You will also provide a point of reference and advice for clinical teams responsible for patients with suspected, impending and confirmed metastatic spinal cord compression (MSCC). This role will include contribution to the development of clinical guidelines, audit & staff education.

As the MSCC Pathway Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in orchestrating the management of patients presenting with impending, confirmed, or suspected metastatic spinal cord compression (MSCC) within the Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Alliance Network MSCC group.
Your responsibilities will include providing authoritative guidance and support to clinical teams navigating the complexities of MSCC cases. You will serve as the primary point of contact, facilitating communication and collaboration until a comprehensive management plan is established, ensuring timely and effective patient care.
We have 10,000 fantastic people working hard to deliver quality services to our patients. Whatever your role, you help look after 370,000 people in our local area & give specialist care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire & Cumbria.
Working with us gives you the knowledge and sense of pride that every activity you do genuinely does make a difference to support our patients & staff, ensuring we keep thriving & delivering outstanding healthcare right across our local towns.
You’ll have access to varied development opportunities, learn new skills, meet fab people & do things you’d never have done. You’ll learn about working in a hospital, interacting with people from all different roles to build skills & enhance your career path.
You’ll make an impact, be challenged to think differently, be bold & help innovate to keep improving things. Everything we do centres around patient care and enhancing their experience which means your role is pivotal and something really to be proud of.
The post holder will work alongside other clinical colleagues in oncology, neurosurgery, palliative care, acute medicine and radiology to ensure quality of care to the patients is maximised. This will include contribution to the development of clinical guidelines, audit & staff education.
The coordinator will ensure that accurate data is obtained about patients with impending and confirmed MSCC. This could include both quantitative data (e.g. relating to time scale) and qualitative data (e.g. presenting symptoms). Audit of this data will be provided annually and outcomes reviewed with the multidisciplinary team to inform future practice.
The duties and responsibilities listed below should be undertaken in accordance with the levels of competence as defined in the KSF outline for this post. In addition all staff are expected to act in accordance with the values and behaviours of the Trust
