YMCAs housing provision in Goole provides 24-hour support for homeless young people (aged 16-25) living in Goole and the surrounding areas.
We are seeking a casual Housing Duty Worker to provide planned and emergency cover to our permenant rota.
The main focus of this role is to maintain the safety of our residents and the security of the premises at our hostel in Goole. Our typical shift would be 5.30pm to 5.30am, 7 days a week. We operate a finely tuned rota so would be able to give you plenty of notice of available shifts but ask that you are flexible to cover with short notice/emergency situations.
You will be the face of the hostel when welcoming residents and guests, controlling access to the premises in a friendly and professional manner, as well as undertaking some administrative and cleaning duties.
Being a Housing Duty Worker is one of the busiest and most varied roles in our service; you will cover everything from support work, incidents, administration, security, fire safety, cleaning support, and anything else that might crop up while you are on shift.
With specific interest in supporting young people, you will enjoy variety, loves being busy and thrives off never being able to predict exactly what will happen that shift
You will support our residents by:
- Being there to provide advice and assistance
- Providing keys/replacements where needed.
- Providing first aid
- Responding to fire alarms
- Being a first point of call when dealing with incidents, including emergencies, including liaising with the police and other agencies to prevent damage/harm to our residents and buildings.
- Crisis Management and incident reporting.
- If needed, undertake facilities/domestic duties to maintain the upkeep of our building.
Why Work for Us?
We are looking for someone ideally with experience or interested in gaining experience working in supported housing with vulnerable adults and young people aged 16-24 years old.
However, we are also happy and able to give you the training and development to start your career in Housing.
You will need to have an understanding of the needs of young people (aged 16 25) who may have drug, alcohol and other issues. Regardless of your background, you will be confident to deal with difficult situations and handle conflict appropriately.
This role would suit you if you have experience or a desire to learn skills for social work, youth work, housing, drug and alcohol services, rehabilitation services, sociology, security and much more.
This role will really push your personal skills as we are looking for someone, regardless of experience who can:
- Work with mínimal supervision, use initiative, work alone and work as part of a team
- Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies
- Deal with conflict, manage aggressive behaviour and diffuse situations effectively
- Talk to people of all background and abilities, with excellent communication skills
- Form and maintain relationships with appropriate professional boundaries, acting as a role model for our residents.

At YMCA Robin Hood Group, you will have many additional benefits, including but not limited to:
- Monthly pay via our payroll
- Regular ongoing training
