Syndicate 1183 underwrites multiple classes of business including Political Violence/Terrorism, Marine and Aviation War, Energy (off-shore and on-shore), Marine and Energy Liability, Hull, Cargo and Specie, Political Risk, Property, Accident and Health, Financial Lines, Cyber, Alternative Risks, Non-Physical Cyber and Treaty Reinsurance.

Syndicate 2019 reinsures premium written by AIG’s Private Client Group, covering Homeowners, Auto, General Specie and other products.

About the role

What you need to know:
The Chief Compliance Officer has oversight over all Compliance-related activities across Talbot. Accountable for the implementation of the Talbot Compliance Framework ensuring effective compliance and governance. This person will report directly to the AIG Regional Chief Compliance Officer and Talbot’s General Counsel.
- Ensuring that systems are in place to facilitate Talbot Underwriting Limited (“TUL”)’s (and its subsidiaries and Talbot owned overseas offices) compliance with all Lloyd’s Acts, Byelaws and regulations and any regulations imposed by the relevant regulators.
- Ensuring that the systems are in place for the accurate and timely completion of all returns to Lloyd’s, the PRA / FCA and any other regulatory authority as required from time to time.
- Ensuring that systems are in place to ensure that each member of staff is aware of all relevant aspects of Lloyd’s Acts, Byelaws, regulations, and bulletins, PRA/FCA and other regulations necessary to allow them to perform their duties.
- Monitoring the development and operation of the systems of management and control of the business with specific regard to regulatory expectations and recommend change if appropriate.
- Promoting a culture of pro-active compliance within the company.
- Ensuring a proactive working relationship with the General Counsel so that there are no gaps in the division of responsibilities.
- Assisting the General Counsel and Chief Executive Officer in maintaining an open and co-operative relationship with Lloyd’s, the PRA / FCA and such other regulatory bodies as appropriate.
- Support the business to ensure that Talbot remains fully compliant with Conduct Risk requirements and that robust Customer Challenge is applied where necessary.

In addition, to ensure the Compliance Team:

- Assist the General Counsel in managing enquiries from PRA / FCA, Lloyd’s and other regulators to maintain a good working relationship with them.
- Manages requirements in respect of regulatory visits and reviews.
- Compiles or supports compilation of responses on Lloyd’s/PRA/FCA consultative documents where relevant.
- Designs systems of control, monitors compliance with company procedures and regulatory standards and maintains the Procedures for TUL and Talbot owned overseas offices and recommends change in response to changes in the business environment.
- Maintains a good working relationship with, and provides advice to, business areas on compliance issues
- Understands international compliance developments. Supports underwriters, Validus and other group entities with enquiries on overseas business compliance, and in relation to fulfilment of business objectives of establishing affiliated offices.

What we’re looking for:
The ideal person for this role should have experience of managing a Compliance team within a Lloyd’s regulated environment. You will be a dynamic individual with a can-do attitude. You will have a track-record of effectively leading a compliance department, developing the strategic direction, and creating and enhancing business relationships. Critical to this role is the ability to think holistically, lead the Compliance team to carry out tasks within its remit and to have appropriate gravitas to work with senior management.
- Significant knowledge and understanding of Lloyd’s compliance and regulatory issues; prior experience with applicable regulatory regimes essential.
- Significant experience overseeing regulatory compliance frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and work effectively within a highly matrixed organization with employees at all levels.
- Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving and execution skills.
- Excellent organizational, written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster good working relationships based on respect and trust.
- Ability to maintain an independent view where necessary.
