For more than 100 years, we have provided funerals in Exeter, a role we have always fulfilled with integrity and kindness. When you ask us to arrange a funeral, we will ensure your wishes are met.

You may already have in mind the type of funeral you want, but don't worry if you haven't. Our team of Exeter funeral directors will be available to offer guidance and advice, as well as help ease any of your concerns. Whatever your request, be it a religious or a humanist funeral, a traditional service or a more modern offering, we will endeavour to make it happen, creating a unique tribute to your loved one.

Since 1860, we have been a part of Exeter, originally in the building trade before moving into funeral arrangement at the start of the twentieth century. In the intervening 100+ years, we have provided support and funeral care to families throughout the community, always ensuring we adhere to the values we were founded upon: kindness and understanding.

Once out of necessity and once out of convenience we have moved premises. Our first funeral home in Exeter opened on Summerland Street, where it remained until it was destroyed during the Blitz of 1942. We subsequently moved to Old Tiverton Road, with the chapels and workshops based at our present site. During our time at both locations, we were known by the family name of W Mitchell & Son. This changed in 1988, when it was decided to move everything to the current premises and the name was shortened to Mitchell.

Our Exeter funeral directors can be found on King William Street, near to the main shopping parade. This central location means we are accessible to all areas within the city, such as Exwick, Heavitree and St Thomas. We are also within reach of nearby Devon villages, including Cowley and Exminster.

**What Will I Be Doing as A Funeral Service Operative?**

As a Funeral Service Operative, you will be at the very heart and focal point of our business, persistently delivering consistently high levels of client services to the deceased and their families.

Some of our posts will require you to assist our on-call rota at night and on the weekend, though this will be fully discussed with you throughout the recruitment process.

Other duties will include:

- Preparing and ensuring the cleanliness of vehicles
- Aid with bringing the deceased into our care
- Being part of the funeral service by bearing the coffin and driving company vehicles
- Assisting the Funeral Director with pre-funeral checks including route planning and address checking.

**What Do I Need?**
- A full UK driving licence
- Good level of physical fitness, as this role will involve heavy lifting duties
- The necessary documentation for a basic DBS, reference & driving licence check.
- Pride in your appearance, ensuring you are always professional
- A caring and empathetic nature
- The determination to deliver excellent client services

**Advantageous**:

- Previous experience in the industry, though this is not required, as full training will be provided.
