**Health, Safety & Environmental Manager**

**Shepton Mallet**

**Salary - £50,000 to 55,000**

To manage the Health, Safety and environmental (HSE) strategy across the site, in order to ensure maximum safety of equipment, processes, personnel, energy and waste reductions whilst meeting operational requirements. To influence site teams to ensure wefollow safe working practices and procedures.

To carry out and record HSE audits of areas and site risk assessments on site equipment and procedures and maintain the company HSE databank. To construct company HSE Policies and procedures with action to train and lead implementation in these.

To be instrumental in the development of an HSE culture.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- To lead and promote front line positive Health and Safety culture, with shopfloor involvement;
- Root cause analysis, corrective and preventive measures;
- Develop systems for site risk assessments, considering how risks could be reduced and implement actions;
- Assist in outlining safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards;
- Carry out joint regular HSE site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented;
- Make changes to working practices and procedures to ensure that they are safe and comply with legislation;
- Prepare health and safety strategies and develop internal policies;
- To drive environmental initiatives across all areas of the business.
- To work with the Environment Agency in investigation and corrective actions to safeguard the local area.
- To be responsible to raise section 5 notifications in the event of any incident on site relating to pollution control.
- To develop an ongoing improvement plan in conjunction with the Environment Agency to deliver improvements in the control of Chemicals.
- Lead in-house training with managers and employees about HSE issues and risks;
- Keep active records of inspection findings and producing reports that suggest improvements;
- Recording of incidents and accidents and producing statistics for the SMT;
- Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all HSE legislation and any developments that affect the Business/industry;
- Where possible attend Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and HSE seminars and reading professional journals;
- Produce management reports, newsletters and bulletin.
