An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term Band 5 role for 37.5 hours weekly to cover maternity leave for a period of 12 months. The role involves both acute and community work and will give an opportunity to gain experience in adult ocular motility and paediatric clinics.

We have a team of 9 orthoptists and 2 optometrists as well as a Paediatric/Ocular Motility Ophthalmologist.

**The job role involves**:
To provide a high quality Orthoptic service for all patients referred to the hospital service in Stockport and High Peak and work autonomously in the diagnosis and management of complex adult and paediatric cases.

To be responsible for ensuring the provision of compassionate, safe and high quality patient care.

To take direct referrals, prioritise and judge requirements for onward referral. May be first point of contact for patients and is totally responsible for patient management.

To determine the clinical diagnosis and develop effective treatment plans

**Responsibilities**:
To provide a high quality Orthoptic service for all patients referred to the hospital service in Stockport and High Peak and work autonomously in the diagnosis and management of complex adult and paediatric cases.

To be responsible for ensuring the provision of compassionate, safe and high quality patient care.

To work autonomously in the community clinics and schools undertaking Primary Visual Screening in Stockport and North Derbyshire. This involves work without supervision in providing a diagnosis, management and treatment of patients referred in both Trusts.

To take direct referrals, prioritise and judge requirements for onward referral. May be first point of contact for patients and is totally responsible for patient management.

To determine the clinical diagnosis and develop effective treatment plans

To work effectively as part of a team

To undertake some of the clerical and administrative duties involved in the running of the hospital orthoptic departments at Stepping Hill Hospital and the Cavendish Hospital, and in community clinics and schools.

To lead by example and act as a positive role model to staff taking responsibility for own professional development.

Organise and plan own day to day workload or activities in order to meet the demands of the job role.

Contribute to and participate in programmes of audit, including utilisation of results in practice.

To ensure effective use of resources at department level.
