**Core responsibilities of the role include**:
The strategic management of the running of the Creative and Marketing Team, this requires the ability to combine elements of operational and strategic work. We need someone who is happy to develop a campaign strategy on one day, while scrutinising a budget the next.The strategic responsibility for maintaining and/or growing the Creative and Marketing Team - including shaping the roles within the team to meet strategic goals. This will also include hiring and staffing within the team.Developing future work pipelines through client engagement, spotting new opportunities, growth into new sectors, and collaborations with new partners/agencies. This could include clients with large budgets which will allow for more creative freedom.Directing the creative response to briefs for the Creative and Marketing team to deliver projects against your creative vision.Supporting the Creative and Marketing Team, helping them deliver their best work. Knowing when to step in, and when to step back.Evaluate projects to ensure they meet the expectations, properly represent the brief and achieve the desired results to present back to clients.Represent the business at a senior level, including through pitches for work. Manage and nurture new and existing clients to build long-term relationships.Creating and maintaining a vision for the company’s external comms and branding and ensuring those creative standards are upheld

Business development

All three teams (Creative, Events and SciPol) in MWC conduct business development to ensure a constant throughflow of work well into the future. This is supported by the Director and the Head of Operations - the latter with a particular focus on business-wide project planning and capacity monitoring.

Business development duties associated with the HoCM role may include:
Proactive and long-term horizon-scanning for opportunities of relevance to the Creative team - eg. identifying relevant ‘calls’ / ITTs, as well as identifying projects and areas within the landscape that MWC works that may require comms support.Supporting the Creative Manager in drafting and submitting responses to client requests for quotes - considering their overall professional development in this area, and ensuring that quoted costs are in-line with actual delivery and the company’s needs.When relevant, supporting the Manager in making a ‘yes or no’ decision as to whether to go ahead with a bid for a project.

Strategic oversight and internal reporting

The HoCM will be required to report on behalf of the Creative and Marketing team at the Senior Leadership level (currently comprised of the Director, Head of Ops and Head of SciPol -with some support from the Head of Finance). This requires an overall view of the ‘health’ of the team, its priority projects, pressures, budgets and future work slate. In turn, much of this information should be provided to the HoCM by the Creative Manager or discussed with the Head of Ops. This information is reported at the quarterly finance meeting.
Formal internal reporting of project progress, business development prospects and other operational and financial information will be required. Relevant templates and structures for the provision of this information - as well as a schedule for reporting - will be provided by
the Head of Operations.

The HoCM will also attend cross-team Project Management meetings, currently held for 30 mins on a Tuesday and Thursday morning.
The HoCM will be engaged in recruitment for the Creative and Marketing team, attending interviews for staff (of at least Officer level) alongside the Creative Manager. When relevant, if a consistent need for additional capacity, or a project-related hire, has become apparent the HoCM will communicate this to the Director to approve a hiring process and staff budget. The HoCM will have final sign-off on job specifications for roles within the team.

In addition to the above responsibilities, the following duties are also foreseen:
Oversee and ensure the well-being and functioning of Creative ManagerHelp the Creative Manager to manage team-wide HR functions, such as ensuring staff are using annual leave quota within their contracted periods if needed.Represent MWC at external meetings, conferences and in engagement with clients when relevant.Provide peer-support or insight relevant to projects in other teams - including, creative direction for SciPol projects when required.
