**About the Office for Budget Responsibility**

The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) was established by the Chancellor in May 2010. We provide official independent forecasts of the economy and public finances to inform the Government's fiscal policy decisions, examine the impact of the Government's policy decisions on the public finances, and assess the prospects for achieving the Government's fiscal targets and welfare cap. We publish reports on long-term fiscal sustainability, fiscal risks, and trends in welfare spending, and run a wider work programme of research and analysis into economic and fiscal issues.

The OBR is comprised of the Budget Responsibility Committee (BRC) - Richard Hughes (Chairman), Professor David Miles, and Andy King - who are currently supported by around 45 civil servants, including economists, public finance analysts, and business support staff.

As we are a small organisation with a flat structure, all roles offer direct exposure to senior staff, opportunities to manage relationships with stakeholders and to project manage work programmes. A role here provides a great opportunity to develop your ability to communicate insights concisely to the public, press and other stakeholders.

About the team

The Strategy, Operations and Communications (SOC) team is responsible for the organisation and delivery of all of the OBR’s publications, office management functions and internal and external communications. It is a central team that is directly involved in everything the OBR does, including liaison with our Treasury sponsor team, supporting the Budget Responsibility Committee and representing the office at international events.

The small comms team disseminates the work of the OBR across all external communication channels and ensures the conclusions of the OBR’s key documents reach the press, public and other stakeholders. The press office, events and public enquiries are also managed by the team.

The SOC team also project manage the internal and external delivery of the OBR’s core publications, including the _Economic and fiscal outlook_ - which is published alongside the Budget and contains the UK’s official forecast for the economy and public finances. In a fast-paced environment, they support analysts, senior staff and Treasury counterparts to deliver to strict deadlines. The team also ensures formatting and style is kept to a high and professional standard across all outputs.

**Job description**:

- Publishing timely content to the OBR’s website via WordPress, while ensuring all original content is relevant and adheres to the OBR’s in-house style.
- Adapting and disseminating content for the _Economic and fiscal outlook_ and other publications in a way that is accessible to multiple audiences by ensuring accessibility is at the heart of content production and design.
- Work with the wider SOC team to develop new ways to communicate forecasts and other outputs to improve the impact and visibility of OBR analysis which is continually informed by analytics and feedback.
- Day-to-day operational management of the OBR’s intranet and working with others to ensure it is updated in a timely manner.

Entrants to the team would also have the opportunity to get involved in a range of work, which could be tailored to the post-holder e.g. social media and website analytics, evaluation and insight, publication design and more.
