**Job Purpose**:
Responsible for maintaining the standards set out by the cook on shift in relation to the operation of the kitchen including food preparation, storing of supplies, cleaning, delivery of food throughout the home and compliance of health and safety standards.
- **Your duties will include**:_

**Food Preparation**:
Preparation of the cooking and serving of delicious and nutritious hot and cold meals, as and when required for residents.

Reacting to residents choices at short notice.

Ensuring all meals are of the highest possible quality and attractively presented.

Providing for special dietary requirements where necessary and taking into account the preferences of individual residents including texture modified meals.

Portioning meals to residents.

Staff Meals.

**Communication**:
Liaising with the Cook when planning and costing menus in order to provide a balanced nutritious diet and making the best use of available fresh foods.

Arranging and participating in staff and resident meetings as required.

Spending time with residents to build trust and rapport.

Facilitating new food related activities for residents out with the planned monthly menus.

**Budgetary and Financial Control**:
Maintaining accurate records of food supplies, waste and hazard analysis, freezer and fridge temperatures as required by the Environmental Health, Food Standards Agency, Care Inspectorate and company.

Ensuring the correct and economical use of provisions and equipment within budgetary guidelines.

Ensuring stock rotation. Ordering stock and checking deliveries, checking and valuing stocks.

Assisting the planning, design and costing of menus.

**Training & Development**:
Maintaining and improving professional knowledge and competence.

Attending mandatory training days and courses (on and off site) as and when required.

**Health & Safety**:
Ensuring statutory Health & Safety standards in the kitchen and dining areas.

Making certain that all chemicals and kitchen equipment are used and stored correctly and safety procedures are adhered to at all times.

Ensuring all crockery and equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately and that the overall cleaning of the kitchen area (and where appropriate, dining areas) is carried out effectively.

Reporting immediately to the duty manager, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a client, colleague, self or another.

Understanding and ensuring the implementation of WS’s Health and Safety, Infection Control and Hygiene policies and the Emergency and Fire procedures.

Reporting to the Operations Manager or Estate Manager any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.

Promoting safe working practice in the Home.

**General**:
Contributing to the safeguarding of adults by ensuring you are aware of your role in relation to WS’s Safeguarding Adult’s policy, taking steps to protect residents from any form of abuse or neglect and use the appropriate reporting mechanisms to inform the Home’s management of any concerns.

Adhering to all new and changes in Local and Central government initiatives as and when they are implemented.

Promoting a positive personal and professional profile within the local community, ensuring the good reputation of the Home at all times.

Ensuring that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.

Notifying the Duty Manager as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty and also on your return to work from all periods of absence.

Ensuring the security of the Home is maintained at all times.

Adhering to all the Company’s policies and procedures within the defined timescales.

Ensuring all equipment is clean and well maintained.

Carrying out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.

**Responsibilities**:

- Assist in food preparation and cooking under the guidance of the kitchen staff
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area
- Wash dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment
- Keep kitchen surfaces and floors clean and sanitized
- Dispose of trash and recycling properly
- Assist in receiving and storing deliveries
- Follow all health and safety regulations in the kitchen

**Requirements**:

- Previous experience working in a restaurant, hotel, or culinary environment is preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
- Good communication skills and ability to work well in a team
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the business
