**Job Purpose**:
To assist staff in the day to day running of the Care Home and to maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and service towards service users, relatives, visitors and other members of staff.

To deliver the managers’ cleaning schedule for the home, ensuring that appropriate cleaning materials are used correctly and reporting changes or concerns to the senior member of staff in charge.

**Key Tasks**:
1. Report both verbally and in writing on the general condition and cleanliness of the building.

2. Maintain a clean and safe environment for service users and staff by using equipment and chemicals provided to thoroughly clean all areas of the home tasked to you including but not restricted to floors, skirting, toilets sinks, walls, carpets, glass and surfaces.

3. Kitchen Porter work to cover annual leave and days off (washing dishes, cleaning kitchen, delivering food to flats and respite centre using heated trolleys).

4. Laundry cover including the operation of and loading/unloading washing machines and dryers, hanging out washing, ironing.

5. Following COSHH, Manual Handling, Fire, Food Hygiene, Step Ladder and Infection Control policies and procedures and attending mandatory training..

6. Remove bags of soiled laundry from flats twice a day and take to the Laundry building.

7. Assist other staff in maintaining standards on each shift.

8. Assist in the collection of continence products for disposal as “yellow bag” waste.

9. Assist service users in maintaining their domestic hygiene in their own rooms.

10. Report accidents and incidents to the senior member of staff on duty both verbally and in writing.

**Care Of Service Users and the building**:
1. Assist in the care of the building.

2. Promote independence and dignity of service users.

3. Assist in enabling service users to live their chosen lifestyle.

4. Talk to and listen to service users.

5. Report complaints directly to the senior in charge as soon as they are made.

6. Follow Health and Safety policies for the home, including adherence with COSHH policies and procedures.

**Other Duties**:
1. Undertake such in house and external training which is appropriate to your role and has been identified through a training needs appraisal.

2. Maintain confidentiality of information at all times.

3. Work within the policies, procedures and guidelines of the Homes’ Quality Management System.

4. Any other such duties as may be required to ensure the safe and effective management of infections or other H&S related activity to ensure the continuity of care for service users.

5. Attend staff meetings as required.

**Salary**: £10.90 per hour
