We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our busy Democratic Services team. You will be working at the heart of the organisation, facilitating the democratic decision-making process.

The post-holder will work with the chairs of the Overview and Scrutiny Committees and help manage the work programme and co-ordinate the agenda including advising officers and partner organisations on information required.

You will provide support for members of the committee through briefing papers, background material and assist with any members’ training or development needs as required.

Part of the role will be the facilitating and management of task and finish groups, including research, arranging site visits, inviting and briefing witnesses. We are looking for a team-player with a positive, flexible attitude. You will have the ability to work on your own initiative, be able to work to deadlines, possess good IT skills, have excellent written and verbal communication skills and a keen eye for detail.

We are looking for someone who is confident in dealing with councillors and officers from across the organisation.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council supports flexible working that includes a blend of remote and office-based working. There will be an expectation of attending and supporting council committee meetings in person which are held in the evening and flexibility to work hours outside of the normal working day.
