**Hours**: Part-time, 18.375 hours per week (0.5 FTE). This role is a job share position, 3 days per week.

**Annual Salary**: £32,136.00 per annum full time equivalent, pro-rated according to contracted part-time hours.

**About the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade**

The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.

The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.

**About the position**

The Community Liaison Officer (CLO) provides support and welfare services to Australian Based (A-Based) Officers and their families posted to the UK on official duties. This position works closely with the Protocol and Relocations Manager, other members of the DFAT A-Based Support Section and the Defence Administration Office in London, developing strategies to facilitate A-Based arrivals and departures.

The key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

- Liaise with A-Based Support team and Defence Administration Office regarding A-Based arrivals and departures, consulting on matters including housing, schooling and medical facilities.
- Provide pre-arrival advice and information to assist new arrivals, including orientation programs, arrival kits and information packs.
- Act as a contact point within the mission for A-Based Officers and their families, advising on relevant community support groups and other resources at post.
- Build strategic partnerships with stakeholder organisations in the local community and broker relationships with A-Based Officers and their families as required.
- Assist A-Based Officers and spouses to ensure their children are placed in the most appropriate schools that meet their needs.
- Collect, collate and update information relating to local living conditions (e.g. bi-annual Cost of Living Survey) as it relates to A-Based Officers and their families, distributing accordingly.
- Advise internal stakeholders such as the Staff and Family Support Office in Canberra, plus the Head of Australian Defence Staff (HADS) and Senior Administrative Officer (SAO) in London on issues which directly affect A-Based Officers and their families.
- Working with the Defence Administration Office, provide support to outposted Defence A-Based Officers and their families on matters such as education, welfare and medical support.
- Maintain electronic records and register A-Based Officers and their spouses on the Australian High Commission emergency contact database.
- Other ad-hoc duties as required.

**Qualifications/Experience**
- Ability to communicate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Capacity to work under limited supervision and manage competing priorities.
- Understanding of the key issues that could be encountered during overseas postings.
- Knowledge of organisations in the local community to assist new arrivals.
- Experience of an overseas posting and living or working in London would be advantageous
- Knowledge of Australian Public Service postings and related family issues
- Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Office suite plus Abode and social media platforms.

**Selection Criteria**

B. Ability to set priorities and organise work effectively and efficiently, and to complete projects and assignments with limited supervision.

C. Ability to develop and support productive working relationships, in addition to demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility and adaptability.

D. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

E. Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. High level of IT literacy with ability to manage an electronic documents and records management system, ensuring on-going compliance with policy guidelines.
