University of Warwick, United Kingdom University of Warwick Full time

Full-time, permanent position. (FTE: 1.0) 36.5 hours per week.

The School of Engineering is seeking to recruit a talented and enthusiastic Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering on the traditional research and teaching pathway. We are looking for someone who can help us strengthen and broaden our research activities, while also contributing to our core teaching aims.

We are open to appointments in aspects of mechanical engineering consistent with the facilities available in the School and the University. Those with backgrounds in precision engineering, metrology, measurement and instrumentation, non-destructive testing, tribology and functional surfaces, dynamics or control are particularly encouraged to apply. We would also consider other aspects of mechanical engineering or mechatronics, though we are not seeking applicants in fluids, materials science, thermal energy or process engineering on this occasion. The appointee will complement existing activity in the School or establish new activity, and may have an experimental or computational focus. Consideration will be given to alignment with existing research facilities, including those in the University’s Research Technology Platforms.

You will have a PhD in a relevant discipline and must be able to demonstrate the capability to establish an independent research activity which has the ambition and potential to become internationally leading. You will initiate, develop and deliver high quality research, publish top-tier journal papers and demonstrate the potential for impact from your research.

You will be appointed for a probationary period (usually five years) during which there is a reduced teaching and administration load to enable you to establish your research group. Successful completion of probation will coincide with promotion to a permanent Associate Professor position. You are also expected to have the relevant experience and skills to deliver teaching and assessment in Mechanical, Materials and Process Engineering, and you may teach on a range of taught programmes at undergraduate, specialised masters, and/or degree apprenticeship levels. You are expected to engage with higher education pedagogy and be willing to develop novel teaching methods, embracing changes in teaching technology and expectations.

To find out more or arrange an informal conversation about the role, please contact: Prof. John D. Murphy

Interview Date: TBC.
