An exciting developmental opportunity has arisen for a motivated and dynamic senior nurse with extensive experience to join the team of Patient Flow Matrons based in Clinical Operations at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a senior nurse for patient flow and site management.
The post holder will be a key member for the Clinical Operations team, to lead and coordinate capacity which supports effective clinical flow for both elective and emergency pathways whilst maintaining patient safety and providing visible senior clinical leadership out of hours on all matters relating to the management of the Hospital sites in the role of Duty Matron.
The successful applicant will be a professional clinical role model who inspires confidence, demonstrates excellent communication, interpersonal, organization, prioritization, decision making and problem-solving skills with the confidence and ability to escalate issues outside of the role of responsibilities.
You will demonstrate attention to detail and have the ability to collate complex information from multi-factorial sources, analyze the bed capacity situation using information technology, pre-empting planned and non -planned admissions and ensuring there are consistent, proactive systems and processes for managing safe patient flow across all of the Trust sites.
- Ensure proactive systems and processes for managing patient flow across all of the Trust sites.
- Work collaboratively as a cohesive team member to ensure effective management and leadership of the Patient Flow Sister Team and Discharge Lounge teams providing professional advice and leadership to the Patient Transport service. This is a senior leadership role and is focussed on the quality of patient experience through delivery of high quality, safe and effective care and the post holder will demonstrate the Trust PROUD values and behaviours.
- Responsible for leading safe, resilient and consistent operational site management and facilitate safe and effective discharge in line with the Trust policies and procedures.
- Manage bed capacity and demand through the ED department supporting timely assessment, treatment and transfer.
- Work as part of a rotational team of Patient Flow matrons managing patient flow and fulfil the role of the Duty Matron role out of hours working across both the NGH and Central campuses.
- Provide a visible presence supporting and liaising with the key assessment areas to facilitate patient flow and improve flow through to the speciality base wards and improve the utilisation of the Patient Discharge Lounge.
The Patient Flow team is a corporate nursing team based in Clinical Operations at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust (STHFT). STHFT is one of the UK's largest, busiest and successful NHS foundation Trusts and provides a comprehensive range of NHS and community services to Sheffield, South Yorkshire, Mid Yorkshire and North Derbyshire but also specialist services to all parts of the UK. As well as being a home to one of three Major Trauma Centers for the Yorkshire Humber region STHFT provides a range of specialist medical and surgical services including orthopaedics, renal, heart and lung services and a Spinal Injuries unit.
