The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is a central government department with a mission to protect our country and provide the ultimate guarantee of its security and independence, as well as helping to protect its values and interests abroad.
To do this we have an annual budget of almost £40 billion and a workforce comprising 193,000 people, almost 59,000 of whom are civilians. We currently manage more than £11 billion of spend every year.
Our work really matters; we offer engaging roles which have a direct impact on the quality of services we provide. We employ people in many different roles and in many locations across the UK and abroad. We have jobs in policy, finance, HR, IS/IT, commercial and project management and all the types of jobs you would expect to find in a government department, or indeed in the private sector. We also employ doctors, dentists, teachers, police, fire service, quantity surveyors, and engineers to name a few. There are many opportunities to develop and progress both within MOD and across the wider Civil Service, whether you’re a permanent appointee or an interim.
Construction technical expertise is needed to support the outputs of a number of developing workstreams and projects. Evaluation of these outputs will require deep expert knowledge to assure DIO that the products are of suitable quality for adoption by Defence.
The contracted infrastructure expert will need to have a wide-ranging expert skill set and knowledge base in several specialist areas, including Net Zero Carbon, Modern Methods of Construction, whole life construction, asset management, innovation, strategic management, and industry best practice. - Review, refresh and develop MOD building performance standards and guidance to reflect and align with emergent high-level Government and Defence targets, industry best practice and potential infrastructure innovations.
- Work with internal, external customers and other Government Departments to ensure DIO are forward looking in the awareness, involvement, and implementation of strategic government initiatives.
- Be accountable for delivery of wide range of projects to support delivery of new innovations, best industry practice, government initiatives and emerging objectives in a range of infrastructure requirements and subsequently undertaking implementation into Defence.
- Use collaborative planning and proactive stakeholder management to identify and develop new infrastructure delivery products, ways of working and processes to meet innovation targets and business objectives.
- Identify areas of innovation that will deliver improved efficiency, capacity, and quality, and implementing these into operations utilising the external technical support providers.
- Deliver project and contract management via several external providers.
**You’ll have the following essential criteria clearly demonstrated on your C.V (please note these are non-negotiable):
- Current active SC Clearance.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of the construction industry, including development and sustainability.
- Member of a recognised construction/building/infrastructure professional body
- Stakeholder Management.
**Ideally. you’ll also have these desirable qualifications, skills and experience:
- Prince 2 or AMP Qualification or equivalent
- Project Management experience
- Strong communication and project management skills to deliver high level objectives.
