London, United Kingdom SSAFA Full time

This role covers London and surrounding areas.

Could you oversee SSAFA services in your region? You don’t need a military background, but some experience of managing people and some basic I.T skills will be needed for this role. If this sounds like you please get in touch

**What is a Regional Chair?**

There are 11 SSAFA regions in the UK. Each region has a network of SSAFA services based on local needs. Regional Chairs oversee all aspects of SSAFA volunteer activity across the region. You will see that all volunteers understand SSAFA policies and represent their views on the national Regional Chairs Committee.

**Why do we need you?**

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community for more than 130 years. Our network of local services is run by volunteers across every county in the UK. You will be the link between the volunteers on the ground and our Board of Trustees.

When would you be needed and where would you be based?

This role is about coordination and communication. Based from home you would need to be able to travel to meetings and events across the region.

The role would suit someone looking to offer a regular time commitment but dates and locations would vary.

**What would you be doing?**
- Encouraging a coordinated regional approach to awareness, fundraising, recruitment and casework
- Bringing together representatives of all volunteer activities at regional meetings
- Attending at least one meeting and one training day per branch/In-Service committee annually
- Supporting branch Chairs, as needed but especially when new to the role
- Communicating and meeting regularly with the Regional Operations Support Manager (ROSM), discussing issued raised in the ROSMs monthly reports, identifying opportunities to raise awareness of SSAFA
- Making regular contact with regionally and nationally based staff to keep up to date
- Participating in the Regional Chairs Committee and additional working groups as appropriate
- Providing regional reports and information as requested
- Promoting SSAFA’s ethos, compliance with policy and the timely submission of monitoring information
- Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA remembering that anyone you meet could be a potential client, volunteer or fundraiser
- Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA including observing our policies such as the Volunteering policy and data protection policy (these will be covered in your training and local induction.)

**What can you gain from this volunteering role?**
- Gain experience of holding a key local role with oversight of all SSAFA activity in the local region
- Use your skills, knowledge and life experience to benefit others
- Support and friendship from your local SSAFA branches and the wider SSAFA community
- Experience, training and skills that you can highlight on your CV and in job interviews
- Better physical and mental health - studies show that volunteers live longer and experience lower levels of stress and depression

**What about training and support?**
- On-line training modules to complete at home, so you are up to date on how to keep clients, their families and personal information safe.
- Access to a range of e-learning courses as well as local opportunities to keep your training up to date
- Regional Chairs Committee comprising a Regional Chair for every region
- Regional Operations Support Manager (per region) for each region
- Access to the Welfare Team and Volunteer Support Team based at our central office
- Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses

**What are we looking for?**
- Friendly and approachable people with some experience of coordinating people and managing meetings
- Good written and spoken English
- The ability to be respectful and non-judgemental with clients, their family, other agencies and SSAFA colleagues
- The ability to coordinate a team of people volunteering
- The ability to keep within boundaries of the role with regards to reporting any safety concerns etc
- Reliable attitude, keep appointments etc.
- The ability to maintain confidentiality and keep information safely
- Access to public transport or a car to travel to meetings, events etc.
- The ability to provide two referees: former employers or other people that know you well (other than relatives)
