If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a part time (18.5 hour) Transport Officer to work within our service.

The Transport Service provides escorted transport for 900 pupils, and 300 post 16 students with special educational needs and disabilities to schools and colleges within Kirklees and beyond. The service also arranges transport for other services including for older people to day care, children who are looked after, and other provisions for after school clubs and short breaks/respite.

You will be responsible for assisting the Senior Transport Officer with the day-to-day delivery of the transport service. You will be expected to line manage Passenger Assistants who accompany customers on their journey, and provide support and guidance on a day-to-day basis. You will assess and arrange requests for transport and deal with queries and enquiries from service users and transport operators and maintain accurate records related to the service. You will also be responsible for emergency phone cover during the evening and early morning on a rota basis.

You will have:

- Experience within a large organisation in a first line supervisory/manager position.
- Knowledge and experience of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
- Experience of managing difficult situations whilst working in a demanding, fast paced working environment, and be able to demonstrate resilience in such situations
- Experience of effectively managing/prioritising a demanding workload and proven ability meet deadlines and manage time effectively.
- Proven track record of providing customer care to an agreed level of performance and standard.
- Experience of managing customer expectations.
- Team player style of approach, ready to take on any challenge.
- Knowledge and experience of using computerised/digital systems and processes
- Ability to travel to different locations e.g., schools as required
- Travel is an essential part of this job and therefore it would be extremely difficult for you to do your job effectively if you did not use a car for all or most of the time. It is essential that you hold a full and valid driving licence, and it is expected that you will either use a council vehicle or your own car.
