Demonstrable experience of managing staff and pathology services is essential.

This role will require encouraging development of the full team through managerial training and strategy development, working alongside the Head of Laboratories and the Senior BMS staff.

This should be supported by well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to support individual and team working.

This is an exciting time to join the pathology team in Dorset. We are making great progress with our vision to create a first class integrated pathology service for Dorset.

The "One Dorset Pathology" service for Dorset County Hospital and University Hospitals Dorset will provide all our service users with a consistent and high standard of service across the region, maximising efficiency in the use of resources.
- To lead, direct and co-ordinate staff, setting consistent and clear example by maintaining punctuality, technical expertise, involvement and commitment to department goals.
- To produce accurate and timely Microbiology results from clinical samples in accordance with the policies, protocols and quality standards.
- To be able to rotate around all areas of the laboratory, including serology.
- Take on the role of department Health & Safety officer, to oversee, develop and ensure compliance with the statutory safety requirements of the department, including the Cat 3 facility.
- Regularly update Head of Laboratories and Quality Lead on Health & Safety issues.
- Provide regular updates to the management team at the bimonthly clinical governance meeting and monthly team meeting on the Health & Safety training function within the laboratory.
- Ensure the laboratory maintains its Cat 3 facility status with the Health and Safety Executive.
- To help maintain the laboratory’s UKAS ISO 15189 accreditation.
- To attend as Head Biomedical Scientist at local staff, Caregroup, Divisional and Trust meetings
- To attend as Head Biomedical Scientist at meetings with external agencies (i.e. One Dorset Pathology)
- To retain a commitment to continuous cover by providing an on-call and/or out of hours service.
- Other duties commensurate to the grade and as requested by the Head of Laboratories.
