**Overall purpose of the role**

Working within our award-winning Communications team, you'll provide vital support to the planning, delivery and reporting of all aspects of communications carried out on behalf of Audit Scotland, the Auditor General and the Accounts Commission.

The Communications team is based within our Corporate Services Group and works across all areas of Audit Scotland to provide a first-class service encompassing strategic support, media management, marketing, internal communication, web, social media and graphic design service. It’s a dynamic and ever-changing environment, in a professional community that works tirelessly to ensure that public money is well spent to meet the needs of Scotland’s people.

**What you will be doing**

Your role will be focused on creating content, administering communications channels, and monitoring the impact of our work. You will also have opportunities to carry out projects aimed at developing your skills and building your wider communications experience for the future.

**General responsibilities**
- Write clear and effective content for internal and external communications.
- Develop good working relationships with team colleagues and staff across Audit Scotland.
- Compile data and information for corporate reporting on our impact from across our communications activity.

**Media**
- Help Communications Advisers to prepare, implement, monitor and report on bespoke communications campaigns to raise the profile of Audit Scotland’s outputs on behalf of the Auditor General, the Accounts Commission and our corporate body to key stakeholders, including media, parliamentary committees, public bodies and others.
- With support from your line manager and the Communications Advisers, lead on specific communications projects to develop your experience and skills.
- Proactively identify media and parliamentary issues relating to Audit Scotland and our work and ensure this intelligence reaches the right people across the organisation.

**Social media**

Support delivery of our social media and engagement strategy by working closely with our Social Media Manager to:

- Produce, schedule and post engaging social and digital media content, including videos for social media and our website.
- Research and target audiences on social media and develop innovative ways of reaching them.
- Monitor social media for engagements and respond where appropriate.
- Collate, analyse and report on monthly social media stats for impact monitoring.

**Internal communications and engagement**
- Maintain and update our internal communications and engagement planner.
- Updating our intranet and monitoring other channels, including Yammer.
- Promote our reporting to the Scottish Parliament’s Public Audit Committee, other relevant parliamentary committees and the Accounts Commission, and report outcomes to key colleagues and internal business groups.
- Editorial support for the quarterly staff magazine. Produce and distribute our weekly all-staff e-newsletter.
- Develop and proofread internal communications for colleagues.
- Support organisation and promotion of internal events, both in-person and virtual.

**Knowledge and experience**

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, highly organised individual with excellent communication skills, who is self-motivated and confident working across multiple projects simultaneously.
We’re looking for someone who can analyse complex information and package this as clear, accessible content that meets the needs of a diverse audience.

You also need to be confident using your initiative to ask questions and suggest news ways of working, and to be comfortable liaising with colleagues and stakeholders in various roles and levels of seniority.

**Person specification - specific knowledge and experience**

**Essential**:

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to plan and manage own work to ensure agreed deadlines are met within budget and ability to anticipate potential problems.
- Proficient in the use of various social media platforms and can produce videos to a high standard.
- Experience with Microsoft/Office 365 systems (Word, Excel, Power Point, SharePoint).

**Desirable**:

- Experience in a public sector communications environment within the UK.
- Experience of working in a hybrid workplace, using remote working technology to reach audiences.
- Experience of mail distribution services such as Campaign Master.
- Experience of creative/design and video editing software.
